Xiaomi is now the world’s largest smartphone manufacturer

In short: For Xiaomi, this is first Europe, and now the world. The Chinese giant was recently voted the continent’s best smartphone maker and just knocked Samsung off the number one spot in the global sales rankings.

According to Counterpoint ResearchXiaomi has become the number one brand in global monthly smartphone sales (through sales). In June, it took 17.1% of the market, ahead of Samsung (15.7%) and Apple (14.3%).

2021 has become the year of Xiaomi. The company recently became the largest smartphone maker in Europe and replaced Apple as the second largest in the world in the second quarter. It is now on top of the heap above Samsung.

As noted Ars TechnicaXiaomi’s growth has been fueled by a huge domestic presence in China, the world’s largest smartphone market, and India, the second largest market. Also on the company’s website there are 58 phones, from budget to flagship.

“Since the decline of Huawei began, Xiaomi has made consistent and aggressive efforts to fill the gap created by this decline,” said Counterpoint Research Director Tarun Patak. “The OEM is expanding into legacy Huawei and HONOR markets such as China, Europe, the Middle East and Africa. In June, Xiaomi was also helped by the recovery of China, Europe and India, as well as the decline in Samsung due to supply restrictions. “

Counterpoint believes Xiaomi’s position at the top may be short-lived. A wave of Covid infections in Vietnam in June disrupted Samsung’s production, resulting in shortages. The Korean firm may return to position one as soon as it recovers.

According to the Korean edition ElecSamsung is “expanding its management analysis” of the mobile business, which it does “when senior management believes there is a problem with a specific business unit.” It says the move was driven by the lack of targeted sales of the Galaxy S21 and the poor performance of 5G smartphones.

Yesterday Xiaomi unveiled yet another of its non-mobile products: the rather sinister four-legged CyberDog robot.
