What a big Bezos day means for commercial space travel

Loading...

This week Jeff Bezos flew into space. Or at least high enough in the sky to be considered technically. While his 10-minute ride on a Blue Origin rocket was primarily intended to bring attention to his space tourism company, the former Amazon CEO also has big ambitions. He wants to start a new era of space colonization with the ultimate goal of creating a new home for humans in space.

Undoubtedly, the fact that he was the richest man in the world and the former head of one of the largest retail companies on the planet means that he contributed directly to some of society’s biggest problems. But Bezos seems to believe that in order to save the Earth, we must leave it.

This week at the Gadget Lab, WIRED Editor-in-Chief Stephen Levy joins us on Jeff Bezos’s big day and its implications for the future of humankind.
