Upcoming Windows 11 22H2 update may include new Moment updates
What to look forward to: A well-known Microsoft insider known as Albacore recently revealed that there may be early signs of a new Windows update method called “Moment” that will be included in the upcoming 22H2 update. This is expected to be a new way for Microsoft to bring new features to Windows.
For the past 25 years, Microsoft has had an easy (and sometimes confusing) way to distribute updates to Windows and to the millions of people who rely on this operating system around the world.
Beginning with Windows 98, Microsoft began distributing OS updates over the Internet to improve performance, fix bugs, or simply add new features. Starting with Windows XP, Microsoft also had “service packs” that took many of these small updates and changes and combined them into one big update.
Windows Update still exists and is used in Windows 11, now with at least monthly updates, although updates can be released early, usually reserved for major security issues or bug fixes. Starting in 2019 with Windows 10, Microsoft has ditched the “service pack” system in favor of a simpler “half-year” naming scheme that delivers major updates to Windows more frequently.
Microsoft is expected to release the Windows 11 “22H2” update very soon, adding a lot of features that users might be interested in. A prominent Microsoft leaker, Albacore, recently tweeted about an upcoming feature that is expected to arrive with the 22H2 update. This feature is called Moment and is expected to be the new method of releasing new features on Windows.

Albacore claims that Moments will be new random updates to Windows that will implement more features in the operating system, which could coincide with Microsoft’s major biennial updates. He also notes that the first Moment update is scheduled to be released in October, following the release of 22H2, which is rumored to release on September 20th.

Microsoft hasn’t officially announced Moments, and thus hasn’t confirmed how often they’ll arrive or whether they can replace the biennial updates. It should be interesting to see how these updates fit in with Microsoft’s new “experience packs” they mentioned back in February, or is it literally the same program, not to mention the nice additions they make with PowerToys, though theirs also can see. as a semi-commitment to securely add these features to the standard Windows environment.
