TwitchCon 2022: Streamer Breaks His Back, Master Chief Dances With Megan Thee Stallion

What happened now? TwitchCon, Twitch’s streaming and gaming convention, took place over the weekend and was pretty packed. In addition to Master Chief training on stage with Megan Thee Stallion, one streamer broke her back and another broke her ankle while participating in events on the show.

The most severe injury occurred during the Face Off event, a promotion between Lenovo and Intel. In this gladiator-style competition, two people tried to knock each other off the podium, using large, padded poles, into a pit filled with Styrofoam cubes.

But whoever filled the pit with these dice should have added them a little more liberally, especially since some streamers jumped from the stands after the fight. One of them was Adriana Chechik, an adult streamer and performer who has over 800,000 followers on Twitch.

As you can see in Jake Lucky’s video, Chechik jumped off the podium after her win and performed a mid-air split before landing on her coccyx. The grimace suggests a painful landing, but she begins to move and smile. It is then that it becomes obvious that Chechik is seriously wounded. “I can’t get up,” she says, although the announcer insists, “no, no, she’s fine.”

Chechik later tweeted that she had broken her back in two places and needed to have a metal bar inserted surgically for support.

EdyBot, the other person in the video who crashed into the hole, said she also hurt her back. Another streamer, LochVaness, sprained her knee and sprained her ankle after stepping off the catwalk, and others have reported sustaining injuries doing similar activities.

Many have pointed out that the pit was too shallow, “like three cubes deep” for people to jump into. According to Chechik, Lenovo told people could dive (“booty first”) and a commentator on the booth mentioned that he “might jump into that foam and have fun”. However, PC gamer notes that participants were warned against diving into the pit and had to sign a liability waiver.

The event remained open until the Chechik incident despite several injuries. It reopened shortly after she broke her back, but was later closed due to a growing number of casualties and those using it “breaking the rules”.

Elsewhere at TwitchCon, Genshin Impact streamer Zummers broke her ankle at the World Balloon Championship by jumping over a chair in a replica living room.

Injury aside, attendees witnessed an unexpected spectacle as Master Chief Halo joined Megan Th Stallion on stage during her performance, proving that John-117 is just as deadly on the dance floor as he is on the battlefield.
