Torchlight: Infinite is a Diablo Immortal-style RPG for PC and mobile devices with less monetization

Apparently, it’s also not as greedy for monetization as one might expect.

This author has vague memories of enjoying the original Torchlight and Torchlight 2 about ten years ago. Back in 2020, the series was the third game made by Echtra Games rather than shut down by Runic Games, but it received mixed reviews from critics and consumers alike.

Now with Shanghai-based XD Inc at the helm, it looks like a new Torchlight called Torchlight Infinite is following the same path as Blizzard, releasing it for both PC and mobile devices, while still being free. However, unlike Diablo Immortal, aggressive monetization has received less attention.

XD Inc emphasizes that gear, affixes, crafting materials, and attribute upgrades are loot-based, ensuring the game truly remains free-to-play. He adds that exclusive drops can only be obtained by power grinding, and that there is no stamina or cooldown in the game.

Being an F2P and mobile game, Torchlight Infinite is not completely devoid of microtransactions. Users can spend money on the Season Pass, Monthly Pass, Auction House, and Premium Currency Packs.

Torchlight Infinite closed beta started yesterday on Steam, with a full launch next month. can you still request access to a test. While all spending and progress will be reset after the end of the beta, everything players spent during the beta will be refunded to them once the game is fully launched.

The developers are no doubt hopeful that Torchlight Infinite manages to avoid the backlash caused by Diablo Immortal. Blizzard’s game has a Metacritic user rating of 0.3 thanks to 4,636 bad reviews and just 86 positive reviews. But after making nearly $50 million in its first month, XD Inc will no doubt be happy if its name makes that much money.
