The Satechi USB Hub has a built-in SSD storage slot.

In short: Apple only recently took steps to ditch some of the MacBook Pro’s dubious design choices, namely bringing back the HDMI port, SD card slot, and a number of physical function keys. For many, these changes may obviate the need to carry around additional hardware in the form of dongles, adapters, and hubs, but if you still require third-party hardware, this hybrid multiport adapter from Satechi might be worth a look.

The USB-C adapter features 4K HDMI display output, USB-C Power Delivery (PD) charging, and two USB-A 3.0 data ports over a single USB-C connection. However, what really sets the device apart from other hubs is the built-in SSD enclosure.

Simply remove the cover from the back of the dongle to access the expansion port. According to the spec, it supports SATA M.2 SSD sizes 2230, 2242, 2260 and 2280, but does not work with NVMe. Satechi says the hub is compatible with a wide range of platforms, including some MacBooks, Chromebooks, laptops and tablets.

The hub is made of aluminum and measures 5.3 “x 1.8” x 0.6 “. It weighs only 3.8 ounces, so it shouldn’t add significantly to the weight of your laptop bag.

V Satechi USB-C Hybrid Multiport Adapter available in your choice of gray or black and comes with a one-year warranty. The price is set at $ 89.99.
