The latest Halo Infinite update is banning players if their graphics card doesn’t have enough VRAM.

facepalm: If you’ve been playing Halo Infinite and suddenly find it no longer works after the latest update, here’s the bad news: you probably need a new graphics card. FPS has requested 4GB of VRAM since launch, but some players have found that they can still play it using graphics cards that don’t meet that requirement – until now.

Halo Infinite’s requirement for a graphics card to have 4 GB of VRAM is listed on both the Microsoft store page and the game’s official website. Steam does not mention the amount of video memory required, but the minimum requirements are listed as AMD RX 570 or Nvidia GTX 1050 Ti, both of which have 4 GB of memory.

However, some people have played the 343 Industries game using cards that are more powerful than the GTX 1050 Ti but have less VRAM, such as the 3GB version of the GTX 1060, which users said ran the game fairly well at more low settings.

Season 3: Echoes Within, released earlier this month, is Halo Infinite’s biggest multiplayer update, bringing new maps, modes, weapons, and ray tracing support. How DSO games reports that the game also does not work with cards with 3 GB of VRAM, despite the fact that in patch notes about this new limit – although 4GB VRAM was already the minimum requirement, so 343 Industries probably didn’t see fit to mention it.

After the update, anyone who tries to download the game with an incompatible map will find it won’t launch and see the following message.

It’s been nearly five years since Nvidia released the GTX 1050 3GB and the GTX 1060 3GB is even older, but both remain popular with Valve’s Steam poll. However, if you own one of these cards, you should probably consider upgrading, especially if you’re a Halo Infinite fan.
