The Brave browser now has a built-in crypto wallet that supports cryptoassets and NFTs.

In short: Daring users who have updated their browser should have noticed that it now has a built-in crypto wallet. With its help, cryptocurrency and NFT holders can manage their portfolios without the need to install third-party extensions, which reduces the vulnerability of their cryptocurrencies and the use of system resources.

The ever-growing number of crypto investors and companies like PayPal, AMC and Newegg accepting cryptocurrency as a payment method has led to a surge in new cryptocurrency wallets. Current cryptocurrency wallet offerings include hardware and software solutions that work like hot or cold wallets, with their own pros and cons.

With Brave Wallet, Browser Developer goals to provide an alternative solution that avoids the security risks of software wallets that are more susceptible to phishing attacks and theft. What’s more, you can connect it to hardware wallets like Trezor and Ledger (Ledger Live is not required) and import assets from Brave Crypto Wallets, MetaMask, and other wallets.

The Brave wallet also allows users to see real-time charts of the cryptocurrency market (powered by CoinGecko data), compare prices of tokens from different providers / exchanges with built-in exchange capabilities, and send and receive assets and NFTs. Other features that users can expect include buying fiat currency through Wyre, managing their portfolio, and supporting DApp on any EVM compatible chains (Polygon, xDai, Avalanche and others) and L2. Support for the Solana blockchain is scheduled for 2022.

“The Brave wallet requires no extensions and is instead built into the browser, which addresses key performance and security issues while maintaining the core functionality of popular cryptocurrency wallets,” said Brian Bondi, CTO and co-founder of Brave. “Brave Wallet offers our over 42 million users and anyone looking for a no extension crypto wallet a high performance, reliable and fully featured wallet built for today’s cryptocurrency users.”

To access the Brave wallet, you need to update your Brave browser to version 1.32. Then open your browser and click on the wallet icon in the upper right corner. Users can also access it by typing “brave: // wallet” in the address bar, clicking “wallet” in the main menu, or by going to the settings page (brave: // settings /) and clicking on the wallet tab.

The Brave wallet is based on an open MPL license that allows developers to contribute to its development. At the moment, Brave wallet is only available for the desktop browser, and plans to implement it in a mobile app soon.
