Ridley Scott Confirms Blade Runner Television Series In Development

Something to look forward to: The Blade Runner franchise is getting another expansion. BBC Radio 4 Today aired an interview with Ridley Scott on Monday confirming that a series based on the film is in the making. The last live action movie to be IP was Blade Runner 2049, which made a splash at the box office despite rave reviews from critics.

In a recent BBC interview, director Ridley Scott disclosed that the Blade Runner television series is in development. The award-winning director says the pilot and the “bible” for the show have already been written. The TV Show Bible is a description of the world in which the show takes place that goes beyond the script – in other words, the knowledge of the universe.

Scott did not elaborate on who is involved in the project and how the show will fit into the overall history of the Blade Runner cinematic universe. He also did not mention the estimated release time. However, Scott’s TV series about aliens announced last December expected debut no earlier than 2023. Assuming the projects have similar production schedules, Blade Runner won’t be out until 2024.

In the meantime, Adult Swim and Crunchyroll debuted this month on Blade Runner: Black Lotus. Set in Los Angeles in 2032, the 13-episode weekly animated series follows a sword-wielding amnesiac replicant named El as he tries to escape the Blade Runners (trailer below).

Blade Runner: Black Lotus has been airing every Saturday on Adult Swim for three weeks now. If you want to catch up, you can grab a bite to eat with previously released episodes at Crunchyroll or Adult swim website (sign in with your cable TV service provider).

Nightdive Studios is also remastering an old Blade Runner adventure from 1997. Blade Runner Enhanced Edition was slated for release on consoles and PCs last year. Unfortunately, Nightdive postponed delivery indefinitely last year. The developer said the project turns out to be more complex than anticipated.

We could see Blade Runner debut before the remake of the game, back in the days when things go. Fortunately, the original Blade Runner is playable in 1997 thanks to ScummVM. You can get it on GOG.
