Summary: Almost three years have passed since HardOCP founder Kyle Bennett announced that he was leaving the groundbreaking tech site to take a job at Intel as Director of Enthusiast Relations, and at this concert Bennett will act as a liaison between the chipmaker and the enthusiast community. … However, this week he returned to HardOCP, albeit with a disability.
V farewell message Posted on March 19, 2019, Bennett said he had been doing the same job for over two decades and the opportunity to do something new was very compelling.
“My new position at Intel will allow me to be another voice of enthusiasts within the company, and I think this will be necessary in the future,” Bennett said. “Likewise, I will become the voice of Intel that speaks directly to the enthusiastic community, which I think is equally necessary.”
Bennett said HardOCP will be “mothballed” and will no longer publish news, editorials or equipment reviews. Given the effective date of April 1, some believed it was nothing more than a joke on April 1. A follow-up Twitter post featuring Bennett’s work badge at Intel allayed any suspicion of an elaborate prank.
On December 28, 2021, Bennett returned to HardOCP. In short, he said he was out of the game for almost three years, but wanted to express his opinion somewhere other than social media. He cautioned that visitors shouldn’t expect daily news updates or reviews like they used to. Rather think of it as a blog where he’ll talk about tech hardware and companies from time to time.
