Paramount confirms third Sonic movie and TV series are in development

In short: Following the success of the first live-action Sonic movie, Paramount decided to make a sequel starring Knuckles the Echidna and Tails, the friendly fox. However, Paramount doesn’t seem to be resting on its laurels, as it recently announced that a TV series and a third film are already in development.

Paramount said The series will revolve around Knuckles (voiced by Idris Elba), who will also appear in the second Sonic movie. Additionally, Paramount has also announced that it is already working on a third Sonic movie, but no release date has been revealed.

“We’re excited to announce that a third theatrical Sonic movie and the first live-action Sonic series for Paramount Plus are in active development.” said Sega CEO Haruki Satomi. “We have an amazing partnership with Paramount and are excited to continue to expand the Sonic the Hedgehog franchise with them.”

After a less-than-stellar introduction to our beloved blue the hedgehog, resulting in a three-month delay to make it look better, the first Sonic movie outperformed box office expectations, becoming the highest-grossing video game adaptation of all time in the US.

The incredible success of the first film was enough to justify the sequel, which is scheduled to hit theaters on April 8, 2022. In addition to Knuckles and Sonic, the latter voiced by Ben Schwartz, we will see the return of Jim Carrey’s Doctor Robotnik and Tails. , played by Colleen O’Shaughnessy, who has been voicing the character since 2014.

Building on the hype, Netflix has announced a new animated series, Sonic 3D. Moreover, Sega has introduced several new Sonic games for different platforms, including the open world. Sound boundaries launch during the 2022 holiday season.
