Oculus Quest VR headsets to remove Facebook account requirement; GTA: San Andreas Goes To VR

In the context: Despite its popularity, the big problem most people face with Oculus Quest headsets is that they need an active Facebook account to set up. But the social network has listened to the complaints and will soon remove this requirement.

The Oculus Quest 2 is currently the most popular VR headset in the Steam survey, with a 33% user base, ahead of the second-ranked Valve Index HMD by about 16%. But the headset’s tight integration with Facebook has always been a challenge for VR fans, especially during the company’s recent six-hour outage that prevented people from accessing games they bought from the Oculus store. This violation may have caused Facebook to change its position.

During the Facebook Connect Livestream, in which Facebook changed its corporate name to Meta, Mark Zuckerberg said: “Since we are more focused on work and, honestly, since we have heard your feedback more widely, we are working to ensure that you can log into Quest with an account other than your personal Facebook account. “

“We’re starting to test work account support shortly and are working on a broader shift here over the next year,” the CEO added. “Not everyone wants their social media profile to be linked to all of these events.”

The other big news about Oculus Quest 2 announced by Zuckerberg is that the VR version of Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas is being developed exclusively for the headset, just like the recent Resident Evil 4. The remaster of the game, along with GTA III and Vice City, is also due out on November 11. for multiple platforms, so it’s likely that VR incarnation will be based on an upcoming release.

There is no real information about San Andreas VR. Oculus Web site simply states, “Get a fresh perspective on Los Santos, San Fierro and Las Venturas when you first or re-experience one of the most iconic open worlds in gaming. This project has been under development for many years and we can look forward to showing you more. “
