Nikon introduces 85mm f/1.2 S portrait lens and 26mm f/2.8 pancake lens for Z-mount cameras

What happened now? Nikon has announced the release of two new prime lenses for its Nikon Z-mount mirrorless camera systems. The Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2 S is described as a fast mid-telephoto prime lens capable of producing beautiful bokeh. Designed for portraiture, weddings, maternity, haute couture and boudoir work, this lens can instantly become a legend.

It features 11 rounded aperture blades for smooth and natural blurring, plus 15 lenses in 10 groups, as well as Extra-Low Dispersion (ED) and Aspherical Elements (AS) lenses to prevent color fringing and aberrations.

The nanocrystalline coating is said to virtually eliminate lens internal reflections. Dual STM stepper motors ensure smooth and quiet focusing even when shooting wide open, which is sure to please videographers. There is no stabilization in the lens, so you will have to rely on your camera’s vibration reduction system.

The lens measures 102.5mm x 141.5mm, weighs 1160 grams and functions Premium weather sealing. It is compatible with 82mm screw-in filters.

New Nikkor Z 26mm f/2.8, meanwhile, is the company’s thinnest autofocus lens for full-frame mirrorless shooters, with an overall length of 23.5mm. Weighing just 125 grams or about 4.4 ounces, it is also the lightest Nikkor Z lens ever.

Pancake Nikon packs eight lens elements into six groups with three aspherical elements. It has seven rounded aperture blades, supports 52mm filters and boasts a minimum focus distance of 0.2m (0.66ft). With a 26mm focal length and slim body, it’s ideal for street photography and candid shots without drawing attention.

Nikon notes that the 26mm lens is dust and drop resistant, but protection is not guaranteed in all situations and circumstances. Translation is not an all-weather lens. We were told that vibration reduction is achieved when paired with an in-body VR camera.

Both new lenses are available for pre-order directly from Nikon. Price set at $2,799.95 for Nikkor Z 85mm f/1.2S and $499.95 for Nikkor Z 26mm f/2.8. Look for them to start shipping in early March.
