2. I define my control plane with zero trust. We will continue to see the growth of industries requiring zero trust frameworks, such as those set by the US government. These requirements will have a global ripple effect across all sectors of critical infrastructure. So where to start? You need to have an authoritative identity management, policy management, and threat management framework in order to properly implement null trust. And if you don’t have a well-defined and authoritative control plane for your multi-cloud environment, how can you achieve consistent identity, policy or threat management across the enterprise? Security in multicloud, more than any other aspect, must be consistent and shared. Scattered vaults are the enemy of true zero-trust security.
3A. I will install early skill sets to take advantage of the quantum benefits. Quantum computing is becoming a reality, and if you don’t have someone in your business who understands how this technology works and how it affects your business, you’re missing out on this technology wave. Decide on a team, tools, and tasks to dedicate to quantum computing and start experimenting. Just last month, we announced the on-premises Dell Quantum Computing Solution, enabling organizations across industries to start taking advantage of accelerated quantum computing that would not otherwise be available to them today. In 2023, it is critical to invest in quantum modeling and enable your data science and AI teams to learn new languages and possibilities of quantum computing.
3B. I determine what the risks of my quantum-secure cryptography are. Quantum computing is so disruptive because it changes many elements of modern IT. With the advent of quantum computing, there is a need to better understand post-quantum cryptography, the development of cryptographic systems for classical computers capable of preventing attacks launched by quantum computers. Attackers around the world are actively trying to intercept and archive encrypted traffic, believing that sufficiently powerful quantum computers will eventually be able to decrypt this data.
Want to reduce risk? I suggest starting with an understanding of where your biggest risk is, as well as the time horizon that is bothering you. You can do this by first cataloging your crypto assets and then determining which encrypted data is most susceptible to public networks and possible capture. This is the first place you need post-quantum cryptography. In 2022, NIST selected the first few viable post-quantum algorithms, and in 2023, these tools will begin to emerge. Over time, they will be needed everywhere, but in 2023, knowing where to use them in the first place will be an important step.
4. I will decide if my multi-cloud edge architecture should be cloud extension or cloud. In 2023, the real world will need more of your data and processing. From real-time data processing in factories to powering robot control systems, edge devices are expanding rapidly in a multi-cloud world. This year, you will need to make a choice about which edge architecture you want to use in the long run.
The first option is to treat the edges as extensions of your clouds. In this general model, you have an equivalent benefit for each cloud (e.g. GPCP-Anthos, Azure-ARC, AWS-EKS). This works well if you only have one or more clouds. The second option is to treat your edge device as a shared platform across all your clouds. This edge-centric architecture is new, but thanks to efforts like Project Frontier, we see a path towards a stable, common edge platform that can be used on any software-defined edge (such as ARC, Anthos, EKS, IoT applications, or tools). data management). While multi-cloud edge platforms are just emerging, it’s important to make decisions about how you want your edge devices to look like in the future. Do you want each cloud service you use to increase the number of peripherals, or do you want these cloud services to be delivered as software on a common platform?
