Netflix Launches Website Revealing Top 10 Most Viewed Headlines of the Week

Summary: Netflix is much more open about how many people view its content these days, but the previous way of ranking headlines based on whether someone watched the first two minutes in their first 28 days on the service has always been controversial. Now that metric has changed to total viewing hours per week, and the company has launched a website that lists the most watched shows and movies.

Top 10 on Netflix is, as the name suggests, a stand-alone company website that lists its content based on how many hours were viewed in the previous week. It also lists how many weeks the movie / show has been in the top 10. Visitors can view four separate tables for English and non-English language films and TV shows.

Lists track the total hours of viewing from the previous Monday through Sunday through to Tuesday’s publication. The most watched movie last week was Red Notice. Looks like not too rosy reviews of the comedy about Ryan Reynolds, The Rock and Gal Gadot did not stop it from gaining more than 148 million viewing hours between November 8-14. English title with nearly 18 million views.

In the TV category, Narcos came out on top for the third season with over 50 million viewing hours. Unsurprisingly, Squid Game was the most watched non-English TV series, with 42.8 million hours and nine weeks in the top 10. Netflix notes that different seasons of the show are classified as different titles, and counts re-views of episodes for that season as a total.

The first 10 tables could be seen back on June 28, when the best film was “Fatherhood” and the best show was “Sex / Life”.

Netflix says it will also update its most watched movies and TV shows from all timelines, which are based on the total hours watched during the first 28 days of using the service.

Pablo Perez De Rosso, Netflix’s vice president of content strategy, wrote that “traditional measures like box office or audience share (which were designed to help advertisers understand linear TV success) are not relevant to most streamers, including Netflix “.

“Engagement, measured by hours of viewing, is a strong indicator of a book’s popularity as well as overall member satisfaction, which is important for retaining subscription services,” added Perez De Rosso. “People want to understand what success means in the streaming world, and these lists offer the clearest answer to that question in our industry.”
