MSI Allegedly Reduces Prices on Certain RTX 3000 Series Cards

Rumor mill: It’s hard not to get depressed with the constant news that graphics cards are getting more expensive and harder to find, so here’s a more encouraging report: MSI is allegedly slashing prices for some of its RTX 3000 line-ups by almost $ 100 per case. RTX 3080.

The claim comes from the Council’s channels Forum (via VideoCardz), which has proven to be effective in previous cases, but should still be taken with a healthy dose of salt. According to machine translation, MSI’s graphics card factory has adjusted prices for some Ampere cards this month.

The most significant changes are expected to affect the mid to high spec MSI RTX 3080 and 3080 Ti cards; they are reduced by 300-600 yuan (from $ 47 to $ 94). The rest of the lineup won’t be much cheaper: prices for the RTX 3070 / Ti will drop by 100-300 yuan (from $ 16 to $ 31), and for the RTX 3060 / Ti by 100-200 yuan (between $ 15 and $ 31). ). The only card with no price change is the RTX 3090.

While this all sounds good, assuming it’s true, the post begins by saying that some MSI RTX 3000 products actually have increased in price this month. The same user reports that Sapphire made its AMD RX 6000 series more expensive, adding $ 80 to the RX 6900, $ 63 to the 6600XT, and $ 55 to the RX 6600. This increase is in line with a recent report of AMD adding 10% to the price of its graphics of RDNA 2 processors after TSMC raised costs.

Graphics card prices and availability have deteriorated in recent months after a short period when things started to improve. Much of the problem stems from the global chip shortage, which Nvidia believes will decrease in the next year. We’ve also heard that Nvidia and Zotac are urging the government to drop Trump-era Chinese tariffs on cards. Let’s hope this makes a difference.
