Bottom line: Xbox has announced a new version of Microsoft Flight Simulator due next month that adds a host of content and features, including early access to DirectX 12. Best of all, existing players don’t have to pay a dime to upgrade to Game of Yearly Edition.
Jörg Neumann, head of Microsoft Flight Simulator, announced in a recent blog post that the Game of the Year edition will include five new aircraft – Boeing F / A-18 Super Hornet, VoloCity, Pilatus PC-6 Porter, CubCrafters. NX Cub and Aviat Pitts Special S1S, as well as eight new airports in Central Europe and the USA:
- Leipzig / Halle Airport (EDDP)
- Allgäu Memmingen Airport (EDJA)
- Kassel airport (EDVK)
- Lugano Airport (LSZA)
- Zurich Airport (LSZH)
- Lucerne Beromünster Airport (LSZO)
- Patrick Space Force Base (KCOF)
- Marine Corps Air Station Miramar (KNKX)
The release will also add information on 545 previously unavailable airports in the US, as well as six new missions, 14 new tutorials, an updated weather system, a development mode replay system, and new cities with photogrammetric data.
V biggest addition here is DirectX 12 support, which Neumann calls “early access to DX12”. Unfortunately, he didn’t elaborate, so we’ll have to wait to see what exactly this entails.
Microsoft Flight Simulator Game of the Year is released on November 18 and replaces the standard version. Pricing hasn’t been disclosed yet, but the original version is currently priced at $ 59.99, so that’s a safe bet. Best of all, it will be available as a free update for existing Xbox and PC players.
