Lenovo to release new ‘thin’ laptops with carbon or glass reinforcement in June

In short: Lenovo is updating and rebranding its Slim line of laptops while keeping the Yoga moniker (at least in the US). The Slim 2-in-1 laptops will go on sale in June 2022 in a variety of models, including carbon fiber and fiberglass reinforced options if you’ve got the cash to spare.

four models The Lenovo Slim 9i, Slim 7i Pro X, Slim 7 Pro X, and Slim 7i Carbon are expected to arrive in June. The devices are expected to start at $1799, $1699, $1499 and $1299 respectively. The hardware under the hood is highly customizable and the options are wider than ever. In the new Slim line, you’ll be able to choose between integrated Intel Iris Xe graphics and dedicated Nvidia cards, as well as both red and blue team processors.

Let’s start with Slim’s most expensive flagship laptop, the 14-inch 9i. Here you can get up to 32GB of DDR5 RAM (clocked at 5600MHz) and an Intel Core i7-1280P, up to a 1TB M.2 Gen 4 SSD, and up to a 4K OLED panel. The graphics here are locked down on standard Iris Xe silicon. Aside from OLED, the 9i’s standout feature is its unique glass body.

Next up is the 7i Pro X, which comes with an Intel Core i7-12700H and an RTX 3050. The 3050 is hardly the most powerful GPU on the market, but it’s definitely a step up from the integrated alternative. This makes the Pro X a suitable option for less intense gaming, which it should display well on a 120Hz panel. This display has a maximum resolution of 3072×1920 and is slightly larger than the 14.5-inch 9i, but lacks OLED backlighting.

The 14.5-inch 7i Pro X supports the same storage options as the 9i, but the RAM gets a little faster, with up to 32GB of memory at 6000MHz.

The third most expensive laptop is the Slim 7 Pro X. It uses the same storage and GPU options as the other Pro X model, but allows users to use the AMD Ryzen 9 6900HS and 32GB of slightly slower 5400MHz RAM.

The “cheapest” Slim model is the 7i Carbon. CPU options peak at Intel’s i7-1260P, and RAM speeds (up to 32GB) are the lowest of the lot at 4800MHz. Unlike the Pro X devices, the 7i Carbon uses either Iris Xe graphics or Nvidia’s budget 2050 graphics card. The 14-inch or 16-inch laptop is reportedly reinforced with lightweight carbon fiber, and the design itself is made of magnesium carbon.

These laptops aren’t available for pre-order yet, so you’ll have to wait a couple more months to hand over your money to Lenovo (at least for these laptops).
