Konami will reveal what’s next for Silent Hill on October 19th.

In short: Later this week, we’ll learn more about the fate of the Silent Hill series. Over the weekend, the official Silent Hill Twitter account posted a teaser that Konami has since picked up. Do you see this city in your restless dreams? the tweet asks, adding that the latest updates for the Silent sill series will be released on October 19th. The post links to the Silent Hill landing page on Konami’s website, but it is mostly empty at the time of writing.

Silent Hill is one of the best horror franchises in gaming, but you won’t know that from its recent resume – or lack thereof. The first part was released back in 1999 for the original PlayStation. Considered by some to be one of the best games ever made, it has been instrumental in defining the modern survival horror genre.

Half a dozen major sequels were released in the 2000s, but only one entry, Silent Hill: Downpour (2012), was released in the 2010s. A sequel called Silent Hills was in development, and a playable teaser called PT was released in 2014. However, in April 2015, Konami canceled the project and removed the demo from the PlayStation Store. Developer Hideo Kojima officially left Konami the same year to form his own studio, Kojima Productions. His first game, Death Stranding, was released in 2019.

Konami hasn’t provided any specific clues as to what to expect later this week. Of course, there is hope that a full-fledged sequel will be announced, perhaps along with a new playable teaser. Other possibilities could include a reboot of an earlier game, possibly in collaboration with Polish video game developer Bloober Team. A new film may also be in development. Last month, South Korea’s Game Rating and Administration Committee rated a game titled Silent Hill: Short Message.

Silent Hill will be streamed by Konami on October 19 at 2:00 PM PT / 5:00 PM ET. Presumably, you will be able to watch the broadcast on the Konami website, YouTube, or other social networks.
