Something to look forward to: Hideo Kojima’s studio, Kojima Productions, is very secretive about their future projects. We know he’s probably considering a sequel to Death Stranding and possibly another completely different project. Now it looks like there are plans to release TV shows and films with a new department dedicated to this task.
Monday Kojima Productions announced this will be the opening of the department of music, television and cinema. The new department will be based in Los Angeles, California, and will deal with tasks related to the transfer of studio ownership to “other districts of pop culture.”
The company has hired longtime PlayStation veteran Riley Russell to lead the division. Russell has spent nearly 28 years at PlayStation in a variety of roles including VP of Business, Senior Vice President of Corporate Development, General Counsel and others.

“The new division will work with creative and talented TV, music and film professionals, as well as the more familiar game industry,” says Kojima’s new boss. “The charter of the team is to expand the reach and awareness of the properties that are currently being developed at Kojima Productions and make them even more part of our popular culture.”
This step should come as no surprise. The game maker showed interest in making films back in 2019.
The studio, founded by the mastermind of Metal Gear Solid, Hideo Kojima, has only one game under its belt – Death Stranding. As of August 2021, Kojima Productions has sold five million copies of its first title. The star of the game, Norman Reedus of The Walking Dead, recently revealed that negotiations are under way for a sequel to Death Stranding.
The studio also tweeted that it is looking for talent to work on a brand new IP already in development. Almost nothing is known about the project, but Kojima hinted that he wants to make a horror movie similar to PT.
“I want to create a horror movie, but I don’t have a good solution. [being able to look away when things get scary]Kojima said during the 2019 BAFTA panel. – As for PT, I wanted to create something that really shares everything. It’s a movie, but it’s a game … I think about it, and I want to do this kind of thing. “
