Intel Reveals Games Not Working With Alder Lake – And Interim Fix

In short: While it seems like Intel’s Alder Lake processors will finally have some serious competition with AMD Ryzen chips, some games don’t work with the new team blue processors. But patches are coming soon and there is a workaround that involves disabling Alder Lake efficiency cores.

We were very impressed with what we’ve seen so far in Alder Lake, and we gave the Core i9-12900K and Core i7-12700KF 90 points. The chips also have excellent gaming performance, but early adopters will find that some titles, including Assassin’s Creed: Valhalla, fail to load due to issues with digital rights management (DRM) software.

Intel explains that the issue stems from the DRM software incorrectly recognizing the effective cores (E-cores) of Alder Lake as a different system. Doing so can prevent games from starting, cause crashes or quit unexpectedly during games.

Intel released list games affected by the Alder Lake / DRM issue; If you’re using Windows 10 instead of Windows 11. The company says it will release a Windows 11 update patch sometime in mid-November to address the issues in bold, and is working with the developers to fix it for the rest of the games.
