Here’s what to expect from Google’s October 6th event

Very expected: The Made by Google presentation begins on October 6 at 10:00 AM ET. The company is due to announce a host of new products including the Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro phones, the Pixel Watch and some new additions to its Nest smart home portfolio.

As Google confirmed earlier this year, the company will unveil its new high-end Pixel 7 and Pixel 7 Pro smartphones. Rumors indicate that the flagships have an updated Tensor G2 a clocked chip for CPU cores, a new GPU, a second-generation Tensor processor, and an improved 5G modem. The new SoC, made with Samsung’s 4LPE technology, provides a marginal performance boost over last year’s 5LPE node.

Otherwise, the new pixels will be reportedly remain quite similar to their predecessors. The vanilla Pixel 7 will feature a 6.3-inch FHD+ AMOLED display (0.1 inches smaller than the Pixel 6) at up to 90Hz. The rear camera hardware will remain the same with 50MP and 12MP ultra-wide cameras, while the front camera will get a new 11MP sensor.

Meanwhile, the Pixel 7 Pro should retain last year’s 6.7-inch QHD+ AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. However, it is said to have a new 48MP telephoto lens (Samsung GM1). This camera has a 5x optical zoom compared to the 4x lens on the Pixel 6 Pro. The rest of the camera hardware will reportedly be identical to its non-professional sibling.

Both phones ship with Android 13 and Google is likely to add some exclusive software features. Previous Leaks indicate that price should stay the same, with the Pixel 7 going for $599 and the Pixel 7 Pro going for $899. Historically, pre-orders should open on October 6 (after the presentation), and the phones will most likely go on sale a week later, on October 13.

Google is likely to unveil its first Pixel Watch smartwatch at the event. It will feature a circular OLED screen, Samsung’s Exynos 9110 SoC, Cortex-M33 co-processor, 1.5GB of RAM, 32GB of internal storage, and a 300mAh battery. The Pixel Watch naturally boots Google’s WearOS 3, which debuted over a year ago on the Samsung Galaxy Watch4. Pricing should range from $349 for the Wi-Fi/Bluetooth-only model to $399 for the LTE variant.

We expect Google to showcase the new Nest WiFi Pro mesh router with 6E support, Bluetooth LE, and the new Matter smart home. standard. The new Nest wired doorbell can also be in the cards. Finally, the company may have more information about its upcoming tablet and foldable device, but don’t expect them to arrive this year.
