In short: Samsung Unpacked 2023 will kick off in a few hours, and this is important for two reasons: not only will it be the first in-person Unpacked event in three years, but it will also feature the Galaxy S23 series that Samsung is hoping for. can give impetus to a growing industry. It’s no secret that the Galaxy S23 series and Galaxy Book 3 will be the stars of the 2023 Unpacked event, given that the devices are already available for reservation on the Samsung website.

Samsung is sticking with familiar Galaxy S series models: S23 Ultra, S23+ and S23. The flagship’s most eye-catching feature is likely to be its 0.56-micron-pixel 200-megapixel main camera, which Samsung said was the smallest in the industry last year. The sensor also boasts a Super QPD autofocus solution that equips all pixels with autofocus capabilities. The sensor will provide additional detail in daytime shots, and its ability to combine light from 16 pixels into one will improve low-light photos.

Other features on the S23 Ultra include a 6.8-inch QHD+ display, 12MP ultra-wide camera, dual 10MP telephoto cameras, 256GB/512GB storage, a 5000mAh battery with 45W charging, and a built-in S Pen. There have also been rumors that Samsung will follow in Apple’s footsteps by adding emergency satellite connectivity to the S23 Ultra, although this may be kept for a future phone.

The other two phones are expected to offer additional upgrades over their predecessors. The batteries of the 6.1-inch Galaxy S23 and 6.6-inch Galaxy S23+ will be increased by 200 mAh to 3900 mAh and 4700 mAh respectively.

All three phones have 120Hz screens, 8GB of RAM in base versions (the Ultra could have 12GB), and are rumored to use an overclocked version of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC called Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC for Galaxy.

The Unpacked event will not only feature phones, but also devices. Samsung is likely to showcase up to five versions of the Galaxy Book 3. They feature OLED screens that have touch sensors built directly into the bezels, allowing laptops to be thinner and lighter.

We’re used to seeing new phones that offer only minor improvements and upgrades over their predecessors, but as smartphone shipments hit their lowest level in a decade, Samsung could be taking a big risk with the S23 series. The phones have the same starting prices as the equivalent S22 models in the US, which is a good thing, although many other countries will face a significant price hike.
