Formify wants to 3D print your next gaming mouse using a photo of your hand

In short: Formify has launched a Kickstarter campaign to create a one-of-a-kind gaming mouse. The process begins with taking a photo of your hand and submitting it. An advanced machine learning algorithm developed by the team will analyze the size, shape and contours of your hand, including details such as finger length and width, and create a design that suits you. .

From there, the mouse proceeds to the manufacturing stage, where industrial-grade Multi Jet Fusion (MJF) 3D printing is used to create the pointer. The finished product will be delivered on time, Formify promises, so you can play with “optimum precision and comfort.”

All formify mice come with PixArt 3395 an optical sensor (650 fps, 26,000 dpi, 50g acceleration), as well as a high-grip surface, crisp Kailh 8.0 switches, programmable thumb buttons, and USB-C recharging. Formify said you’ll also be able to choose between five texture options for the side grip.

However, other details are still unclear. For example, there is no mention of battery life. While Formify has a section on their website dedicated to various mouse capture styles, it’s unclear if buyers will be able to choose their preferred grip style during the design phase. This is perhaps the biggest unknown, and it might be worth contacting Formify in advance for clarification.

On average, you can expect your custom mouse to weigh around 55g.

Maybe it’s just me, but there’s something a little unsettling about sending a photo of my hand to be analyzed by a machine learning algorithm. Maybe I’m just being paranoid about biometric security?

Formify still has ways to achieve its goal. purpose of funding just under $30,000. At the time of writing, with 58 days left, the campaign has raised about $3,500 from backers. A $189 CAD (about $138) deposit will secure your position as a super early supporter. If all goes according to plan, the support units are expected to be delivered in December 2023.
