Elon Musk posts memes about Twitter deal crash as company prepares legal action

In the context: Now that Elon Musk has pulled out of the Twitter deal, the platform is assembling a legal team hoping to force the Tesla boss to complete the $44 billion acquisition. The self-proclaimed Edgelord responded to the threat not with words, but with Chuck Norris memes.

Musk’s takeover of Twitter has looked dubious since he announced the postponement in May as his team hoped to confirm reports that the site’s fake accounts accounted for less than 5% of its user base.

Musk later warned that Twitter’s alleged failure to provide exact numbers regarding spam/fake accounts constituted a material breach of the deal, allowing him to walk away without paying a $1 billion fine. That scenario looked closer than ever on Friday, with Musk finally backing down on his weekend bet.

The richest man in the world didn’t tweet about the deal crash, but posted a couple of memes. The first shows him laughing at the events that happened during the acquisition attempt: Twitter’s refusal to sell, non-disclosure of bots, and a pending court case. Another meme simply depicted Internet favorite Chuck Norris playing chess with the phrase “Chuckmate”, which was no doubt another reference to the Twitter saga.

bloomberg reports that Twitter is now preparing to file a lawsuit against Musk to try to close a deal in a battle between the two heavyweight law firms. Meanwhile, Twitter’s share price is experiencing the effects of several months of turbulence. It fell to $34.17 in pre-market trading, which could cut the company’s market value by about $2 billion. That’s a far cry from Musk’s $54.20 per share offer he made in April.
