What happened now? EA Sports’ next college football game – and the first since 2013 – is due out in the summer of 2024. Daryl Holt, vice president and general manager of EA Sports, told ESPN that this is the best date for them to release a game that will meet or exceed player expectations. Holt noted that the rumored release dates were inaccurate and the game was not delayed.
“We’re trying to create a very immersive college football experience,” the chief executive said. added.
In early 2021, EA Sports announced that it was working on a new college football game. At the time, EA said it had acquired the rights to over 100 colleges to use their logos, stadiums, and unique traditions that fans know and love. The names, images, and likenesses of the student-athletes were not part of the original deal, which means the game will not include the players you see on the field every week.
The NCAA rules regarding player compensation have changed dramatically since then, as athletes are now allowed to receive compensation for the use of their name, likeness and likeness (NIL). This could pave the way for EA Sports to include real players in its upcoming game, but it’s unclear how the system will be structured and whether EA will be able to sign deals with full rosters.
“If you look back at what we talked about in 2021, that road was blocked,” Holt said. “I think I even said something about the fact that we were passengers on this trip, just like everyone else.
“Well, now the road is open, but it’s still under construction.”
It is known that two popular modes will return to the game: dynasty and road to fame. In Dynasty Mode, players will run the college for multiple seasons and even participate in off-field activities such as recruiting and running the transfer portal. Road to Glory allows users to create a player and follow them throughout the college football process.
EA Sports’ last college football game was NCAA Football 14, which featured Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson on the cover. EA canceled the next scheduled game in the series due to a licensing dispute with the NCAA related to player compensation and has not released a new college football game since.
