EA makes DLC for several Mass Effect and Dragon Age games free

TLDR: All single player downloads for Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 2 and Mass Effect 3 are now free. The good news comes from EA’s retirement of the unpopular BioWare points system, which used to be the only way to buy these add-ons.

EA will be removing BioWare Points from its Origin in-game store on October 11th. Email address the company recently sent out to users. Until 2017, currency was the only way to buy DLC for older Bioware games, including Dragon Age: Origins, Dragon Age 2, Mass Effect 2, and Mass Effect 3.

As a result, all single player expansions for these games are now available for free. You will have to go to your game librarychoose one of the mentioned titles, go to the “Additional Content” panel and get each DLC separately (there are more than a dozen in Mass Effect 2 alone).

It’s worth noting that the Mass Effect 3 multiplayer packs are not free. EA mentions that you’ll be able to purchase them until October 11 using any remaining BioWare Points you have. After this date, they can only be exchanged for credits that you have earned (read: earned) in the game.

I wonder what EA is still selling Addon sets for these games separately. The company introduced these packs in 2017 due to user complaints that BioWare Points would never go on sale, meaning that purchasing all of the game’s DLC was often more expensive than the game itself. They also only came in packs of at least 400, with some extras costing as little as 160 points.

In the email, EA also emphasizes that you will still have access to any content previously purchased with BioWare Points, possibly referring to recent news that gamers will lose access to paid DLC for some Ubisoft titles.
