Custom iPhone X with USB-C on eBay approaches $ 100K

What happened now? The modified iPhone, which replaces the phone’s Lightning connector with a USB-C port, has reached nearly $ 100,000 on eBay. The disposable device was developed by engineering student Ken Pillonel, who reverse engineered the Apple C94 over the course of several months and developed a flexible PCB that could fit inside a phone case.

Pillonel listed the phone number on eBay November 1st, and at the time of this writing, it has already attracted over 170 applications. Unfortunately, the list of bids is private, so we can’t see exactly how many of them were from accounts that looked perfectly legitimate versus accounts from obvious spam (such as zero reviews).

What we do know is that there are still over six days left and the current rate is $ 99,900.

The seller notes that the winner does not have to repair, update, or erase the iPhone. Also, they are not advised to use it as an everyday driver and should not open it.

Of course, this last warning is likely to be ignored, as anyone willing to spend that kind of money on an iPhone with a USB-C port most likely just wants to understand exactly what makes it work and try to figure out a way to monetize it.

The winner of the competition will receive the phone itself – a black iPhone X with 64GB of storage – and the box it was in. Pillonel also offers a 30 minute call if the buyer has any questions. The creator guarantees that the phone will work when received, but nothing more.
