Check out the brand new Clock app in Windows 11, now with more features

In short: We know Windows 11 is bringing some fresh changes to a number of standard OS apps, and Microsoft has just dug into what we can expect to see in an updated version of the humble Clock app.

We’ve already seen updated versions of Paint and Photos for Windows 11, and Microsoft recently confirmed that the Snipping Tool and Snip & Sketch desktop apps are being replaced by a single theme-enabled app that combines their functionality. The Calculator, Mail and Calendar apps are also redesigned.

The new Clock app, which is being rolled out in Windows 11 to Windows Insiders on the Dev Channel, has more than just a stylish visual overhaul. Microsoft has introduced a new feature called Focus Sessions, which, as the name suggests, helps users focus on specific tasks.

Focus Sessions, which Microsoft’s Panos Panay teased about a few weeks ago, allows users to set a time limit for how long they want to work on a task. It then creates a focus timer that not only does a countdown function, but also tells you when to take breaks.

Microsoft writes that research has shown that listening to audio reduces the likelihood of distraction; Focus Sessions integrates with Spotify accounts so you can work on perfect music. It also connects to Microsoft To Do, allowing you to mark your tasks without switching apps. You can even set daily goals for how many hours you want to spend on tasks.

“As hybrid work and learning becomes the norm, focusing on digital health is more important than ever, and the new Focus Sessions feature is here to help,” Microsoft writes.

Microsoft ended up promising more updates for standard Windows 11 apps.
