CES 2022 will close a day early after major cancellations due to personal events.

Editor’s comment: In truth, this is more of a PR stunt than anything else. Ask anyone who’s been to CES and they’ll tell you that the fourth day of the show is pretty much a formality. It is not uncommon to find many empty booths on the last day, and several others are actively packing up to head home. In all fairness, CES should probably have been shortened to three days ago.

Bend, but not break. That’s the mantra of the 2022 Consumer Electronics Show, as several big companies canceled personal plans for next week’s event in Las Vegas, leaving organizers struggling to save the show.

CES has already lost several key exhibitors over the past week, including Lenovo, Intel, AMD, MSI, OnePlus and IBM, Microsoft, Pinterest, Amazon, Google, Meta, and Twitter, among others. CTA President and CEO Gary Shapiro said on December 25 in an article for Review – Las Vegas Magazine that CES will and should continue, and criticized the press and other critics “who only tell the story through the prism of dramatic and high-profile companies.”

A week passed and the melody changed a little.

The CTA said on December 31 that finish CES 2022 one day early… The in-person event is now scheduled for January 5-7, 2022 in Las Vegas, while January 3-4 is scheduled as media days… The association said the move was taken as an additional safety measure in addition to existing health protocols already in place for the show.
