In short: In a recent interview with the Polish economic newspaper, CD Projekt Red president Adam Kiczynski said that Cyberpunk 2077 will ultimately succeed as the studio is constantly building its foundations. Kicinski said better equipment would also help.
After a series of delays, Cyberpunk 2077 was finally released in December 2020, with millions of players flocking to buy the game. However, this did not live up to the hype as players reported critical issues with the game, especially on Xbox One and PS4. This prompted Sony to remove the name from its digital store.
A few updates later, the last one patch 1.31, the game can be played on almost any system, but it still falls short of some of CDPR’s promises. For example, PS5 and Xbox Series X players | The S are still waiting for the next-gen update, which was recently delayed until 2022.
Despite everything that happened, Kichinsky said the studio will continue to improve the game. According to him, “Cyberpunk 2077 is the biggest, most ambitious and definitely the most difficult project in our 27-year history,” pushing the studio to do what they have done so far.
“We are proud of many aspects of the game, but as we know, not everything worked out our way,” said Kicinski. “However, the Cyberpunk brand awareness we have managed to create is enormous, and the game universe, its characters and details have fans all over the world.”
Kicinski added that as the studio continues to work on the game, Cyberpunk 2077 will ultimately be considered a “very good game” selling for years to come, like many other CDPR games. What’s more, the faster hardware should also help players run the game with better visuals at a higher frame rate.
While there are no more updates planned for 2021, a large patch is expected to roll out in the first quarter of 2022, including the highly anticipated next-generation update. The patch was delayed, Kicinski said, because it needed “additional time to fine-tune the visual effects. and the performance of the game should be of the highest quality throughout the entire game. “
According to the updated roadmap, the game will receive more free DLCs, updates and improvements in 2022 in the hope of raising the game to the promised standards.
