CD Projekt Red postpones Cyberpunk 2077 and Witcher 3 consoles update until 2022

Even before Cyberpunk 2077 was released, CDPR confirmed that it originally planned to release the game for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC, with full updates to the current generation coming at a later date. In September, the company said it hoped updates for both games would arrive before the end of 2021, but couldn’t guarantee it.

Cyberpunk 2077 was criticized in part for its disappointing performance on PS4 and Xbox One, to the point that it was removed from the PlayStation Store for several months and was only allowed to be enabled again after a few fixes. In 2020, the developer returned hundreds of thousands of copies. After returning to PlayStation Store, Cyberpunk 2077 topped the June 2021 charts.

Cyberpunk’s development experienced multiple delays ahead of release, originally scheduled for April 2020, then September, and finally December. While the company has promised it won’t force developers to work during peak hours, it still happened ahead of the launch. Following a controversial January launch, Bloomberg analyzed what happened during development when CDPR staff said Cyberpunk’s original release schedule was unrealistic. Ironically, at least one employee expected the game to be fully ready by 2022, which is when the current generation update is slated for release.

CDPR announced an update for the current generation Witcher 3 in September 2020. Developed by Saber Interactive, which handled the Nintendo Switch port for The Witcher 3, this update should improve graphics with features such as ray tracing, include all DLCs, and come with new retail. editions for PS5 and Xbox Series.
