Bang & Olufsen launches new Beoplay Portal gaming headset with PlayStation support

In short: The original Beoplay Portal headphones are considered a premium option for Xbox gamers. They were still compatible with PC and PlayStation via Bluetooth, but the extra latency isn’t good for gaming. However, this issue has now been resolved with the latest Bang & Olufsen gaming headset.

The Beoplay Portal Headset was designed as a more expensive option for Xbox players who are looking for something more than an Xbox Wireless Headset. Although designed for the Xbox, the Bang & Olufsen gaming headset was also compatible with Bluetooth-enabled devices such as tablets, phones, consoles and PCs. However, this was only possible via Bluetooth 5.1 and aptX Adaptive, preventing users from playing wirelessly without lag. Alternatively, gamers can use the USB-C port to reduce cable latency.

To solve this problem, Bang & Olufsen launch An updated Beoplay Portal gaming headset with the same look and feel as the original, but now with a new USB dongle for 2.4GHz wireless connectivity. Of course, Bluetooth 5.1 and aptX Adaptive will still be available for gaming on the go, but PC and PlayStation users should use the dongle for the best experience.

Like the first model, the new Beoplay Portal will come with two custom 40mm neodymium drivers and Dolby Atmos headphone support. In addition, it will also be equipped with a new adaptive active noise cancellation technology using a hybrid solution that combines ANC with feed-forward and feedback, as well as a native voice, allowing users to hear themselves while canceling external noise.

Other returning features include anodized aluminum discs in the ear cups, lambskin wrapped and memory foam filled ear cups, and bamboo fiber cloth headband padding. The new model also uses the same virtual boom with beamforming microphones to amplify and isolate the user’s voice and suppress background noise.

The battery has been greatly improved, now providing up to 42 hours of continuous playback with BT and ANC enabled, or 19 hours using 2.4GHz wireless with ANC enabled. Available in the same colors as the original model (anthracite, navy blue and light gray) and the same price: Beoplay Portal PC PS is available for $499.
