Asus’ latest gaming tablet comes with RTX 3050 Ti and eGPU support

In a nutshell: Asus says the new ROG Flow Z13 is the world’s most powerful gaming tablet. A statement that’s hard to argue with given that its lightweight aluminum alloy chassis can house a 12th Gen 14C / 20T Core i9-12900H processor and an RTX 3050 Ti. Asus did not disclose a pricing for what will supposedly be a rather expensive 2-in-1 device, which should be released sometime in the first or second quarter of this year.

The ROG Flow Z13 is strikingly similar to the Microsoft Surface Pro. However, the former’s powerful internals and aggressive design make it a more attractive option in terms of form and function. Asus will offer this 13.4-inch gaming tablet in three variants later this year.

The base model comes with a 12C / 16T Core i5-12000H and Iris Xe graphics, while the mid-range variant comes with a 14C / 20T Core i7-12700H / RTX 3050 GPU. Only these two versions offer 120Hz refresh rates for their 1920 x 1200 IPS touchscreens, while the maximum specification option is limited to 60Hz for a 3840 x 2400 touchscreen display.

All three versions have adaptive sync, stylus support, and can have up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM. However, the base and mid-range models have 512GB of NVMe storage, which expands to 1TB in the higher spec version.

Despite its gaming premise, Asus has also made the Flow Z13 work-friendly, with a 16:10 display and plenty of connectivity options, including Thunderbolt 4 and microSD support across all models.

There is also a special slot for connecting external graphics processors through the proprietary Asus ROG XG mobile interface. This feature probably does more than others to live up to the brand and aesthetics of the Flow Z13 ROG, while the 1.1kg / 2.42lb fairly lightweight body with anti-fingerprint coating, 12mm slim profile, detachable keyboard and a 170 ° stand greatly enhances its portability.

Asus Notes (edit) That said, all-day power for this 2-in-1 device with a 56 Wh battery is likely to last a couple of hours during an intense gaming session. Better to plug it in for maximum performance via a 100W Type-C adapter, which will also charge your tablet up to 50 percent in 30 minutes. Expect the ROG Flow Z13 to be more expensive when it arrives later this year.
