Apple’s next iPhone SE could be very similar to the XR with a 6.1-inch display.

In a nutshell: Apple’s next iPhone SE may come with a significantly larger display compared to the current generation phone. Display Supply Chain Consultants (DSCC) analyst Ross Young recently revised down his forecast for the fourth-generation iPhone SE, telling MacRumors that he believes the phone will ship with a 6.1-inch notched display.

If you remember, the third-generation iPhone SE features a smaller 4.7-inch Retina HD display.

Young did not say if he believes the notch will contain a TrueDepth camera array for Face ID support. this is plausible that Apple will ditch this feature and use the tried and true Touch ID sensor to keep costs down.

The adoption of a larger screen will likely force Apple to remove the capacitive Touch ID Home button normally located below the display and move it to the side of the phone, like on the iPad mini and iPad Air.

If Apple sticks with Touch ID, the notch on the front can be quite thin as it won’t house Face ID components. An iPhone SE without the bottom Touch ID Home button will likely resemble the iPhone XR. This device also featured a 6.1-inch Liquid Retina display but had a larger notch to accommodate Face ID.

iPhone SE is Apple’s most affordable smartphone. Prices for the current generation model start at $429 with 64GB of storage and go up to $579 for 256GB of storage. The fourth-generation iPhone SE is expected to launch sometime in 2024. The price increase may be justified given that Apple added $30 to the cost of the third-generation iPhone SE when it debuted earlier this year.

In other iPhone news, Apple analyst Mark Gurman believes that next year’s models will be the first iPhones to ditch the Lightning connector in favor of the Lightning connector. USB-C. However, the new connector is unlikely to last as long as the 30-pin connector and the Lightning connector, as Gurman expects a fully wireless iPhone in the not too distant future.
