Ad-backed Amazon IMDb TV finally gets mobile apps for Android and iOS

Editor’s comment: IMDb TV, an ad-supported streaming service owned by Amazon, is now available as an app for Android and iOS mobile devices. I tried the app on Fire TV and it actually has some pretty good content. You have to deal with ads, of course, but that’s a small price to pay when you can’t find something else worth watching.

The service, if you remember, was launched in early 2019 under the name IMDb Freedive. In June of the same year, IMDb renamed the service to IMDb TV and tripled the amount of content watched thanks to new licensing agreements with Sony Pictures Entertainment, Warner Bros. and MGM Studios. Just last month, Amazon signed multi-year license agreement with Universal to transfer your content to Prime Video and IMDb TV.

In terms of news, Amazon recently agreed to acquire MGM for $ 8.45 billion to expand its Prime Video offering. Perhaps this acquisition will also benefit IMDb TV?
