Fire tablets and Echo speakers are some of the cheapest personal technology devices. They are built to be affordable, and some of them are especially cheap for Prime Day. Kindles are a different story. They are more expensive and go on sale less often. We’ve compiled every decent Prime Day deal on the Amazon branded devices we’ve tested (and liked!). Amazon has one Device Offers Page with some of their best offers, but we have the first picks organized below.
Note: We regularly update articles and
strike through the items that are sold or price increase from publication, and mark up discounts based on recent product prices or average price, not MSRP. Be sure to check out discounts for yourself. Our choices come from the research and our extensive product review experience. You need one Amazon prime subscription to get the most out of these offers.
Updated Tuesday: We crossed the Echo Dot with Clock, although it’s worth checking out why this deal may return. We’ve also added two offers on Google Assistant alternatives.
WIRED Prime Day Stories
Amazon’s Kindle owns the ebook market, and for good reason. Book reader companies offer more than a month of battery life per charge, the ability to hold thousands of titles and unlimited book subscriptions. You can even get it books books from your local library. Discover ours guide to the Best Amazon Kindle.
The base Kindle remains a solid offering, and the latest model includes a backlight for the 6-inch E Ink touchscreen, meaning you can read in the dark. It is our favorite Kindle for the money. This is the best price we’ve seen on the Kindle this year. It comes with three months of free Kindle Unlimited, which gives you access to a massive library of ebooks. After the end of the three months, Kindle Unlimited is $ 10 per month.
Paperwhite waterproofing makes it a Kindle update to consider. For a couple more Jacksons on the simple Kindle, unlock the joys of reading in pool, beach and tub without fear. The display is flush, and the device is rated IPX8, which means it can stand in 2 meters of water for two hours. Read more on its features here.
The Kindle Kid’s Edition is the base Kindle with some parental controls and – most importantly – Amazon’s 2-year worry-free warranty. This means that your Kindle Kids Edition is going to fall down the stairs because your child has decided to see if it will jump like a slinky, Amazon will replace it.
The Oasis is the Kindle candle. The processor is faster for smoother page turns, is easier to hold with one hand and the screen automatically adjusts brightness. This version also comes with 32 gigabytes of memory, which is enough to hold tens of thousands of books.
Echo Speaker Deals
Read ours Best guide for Speakers Echo & Alexa for tips that Amazon Echoes think are worth your money. The short version is the Plus for the music, the Dot for the Voice, and the Show for a screen. Ours Best Smart Speakers Guide has more options if you are still determined what to buy.
The latest 8-inch Echo Show is sleek and stylish. We like this place more than the 5-inch and 10-inch versions. It’s big enough that time updates and video chats, and recipes are clearly visible, yet it’s compact enough that it doesn’t take up too much valuable real estate on your desk or in the kitchen.
The Echo Show 10 has a screen that rotates to follow you as you turn around the room. This feature takes a bit of set up – set it where you want it and then the Echo chooses its range of motion – but it works well on calls and when trying to check how long it stays on a kitchen timer. The base for the screen accommodates good sound speakers, which offer a fairly substantial sound stage, similar to a standard Eco.
The Eco standard is one of the best smart speakers and u the best Alexa speaker (8/10, WIRED Recommends). If you don’t want a screen and a camera looking at you, but you want superior sound quality over a small Echo Dot, the standard Echo is worth listening to. It has alternated between $ 80 and $ 100 since its debut last year. This week’s price is $ 10 higher than its lowest selling price.
Echo Dot is one of the cheapest ways to spread Alexa in your home, if that’s the case. It’s also a pretty good speaker, especially at this price.
The children’s edition Echo Dot offers some parental controls and child-friendly designs – Gear Team editor Adrienne So says it’s incredibly cute and has a surprisingly nice sound. This deal also includes a year of Amazon Kids + content (formerly FreeTime Unlimited). After the first year, Amazon Kids + is $ 3 a month, so make a note on your calendar if you plan to cancel.
The Parker Hall team’s WIRED audio expert calls the Dot “the biggest alarm clock ever.” You can easily check the time in the middle of the night, thanks to the front time, and can wake you up with your favorite seasonal playlists. Clockless models are always useful, especially if you want to add Alexa to more rooms at home without spending a fortune.
The Echo Buds (8/10, WIRED Recommends) offer good sound and have a great app and Alexa integration. The noise cancellation isn’t quite on par with what you’ll get in Apple and Samsung headphones, but it’s good enough to block most ambient sounds. The earbuds come with a charging case and plenty of earbuds and earphone sizes to ensure a good fit.
Fire Tablet Offers
Amazon tablets are so cheap that they are almost suspicious. We have some reservations about the tablet software, but overall it is worth it. Be sure to check out our updated guide to decryption which Amazon Fire tablet is the best for you.
While the HD 10 is better, the Fire HD 8 is a very capable tablet for the price. The Plus model, with extra RAM (3 gigabytes instead of 2), is recommended, and its on sale for $ 65 ($ 45 off).
The Fire HD 8 Kids Edition is our top pick for kids under 7 years old. It’s small enough for younger hands, and it’s padded so it won’t break probably when they leave it. You also have a two-year replacement plan without questions.
If you have older kids (about 8 years and older), the Fire HD 10 Kids Pro Edition has a less bulky case and more app options. It still has a lot of parental controls in the settings.
Amazon renewed its Fire HD 10 earlier this year with more RAM and a brighter screen, reaffirming it as a more capable tablet than the 8-inch version. It is to our favorite economic tablet and u best tablet amazon you can buy, with faster performance, more storage, and a 10-inch HD screen that looks much nicer. The Plus model with an extra gigabyte of RAM is as well on sale for $ 110 ($ 70 off), and u the new productivity package is $ 180 ($ 100 discount). This includes a keyboard, with software suitable for the job, that makes the Fire HD 10 a more capable device – as long as you don’t use Google’s office suite, which won’t work with Amazon hardware.
Fire TV deals
Amazon’s Fire TV platform is great if you’re subscribing to Amazon Prime or buying Amazon Instant Videos. It emphasizes Amazon content over Netflix and other providers, but has most of the major streaming apps. With Google and Amazon have been feuding, you can once again get YouTube on FireTV. At these Prime Day business prices, even the Fire TV Cube is powerfully attractive.
The Fire Stick 4K is the best of Amazon’s Fire TV devices. All things considered, us prefers Roku devices for streaming, but if you are a heavy user of Prime Video or have a 4K screen, it works well. In the same way as Fire tablets, the interface is underrated, but you’ll get used to it.
We encourage you to only buy the Fire Stick with 4K, but if you don’t own a 4K TV and want to save that $ 10 more, drop it.
Other Amazon Device Offers
The Amazon Halo isn’t a useful fitness tracker, but it does something that no other device we’ve tried will do: track your emotions. WIRED associate editor Adrienne So took it for a month and found the emotion tracking feature interesting is useful lately. At the same time, should any company, even less Amazon, normalize the whole-body strip scanning process for their customers? This is a good price, but this first version of the device still feels incomplete. Read the review first to know what you are up to with this.
The Eero is the mesh router that Apple would have made if it had bothered. This deal features a base station and two smaller extenders, which will provide more than enough wireless signal coverage for most homes. The Eero app has some nice features like the ability to pause the internet on particular devices. At this price, our biggest complaint about the Eero – which is expensive for a router – is resolved.
If you don’t need the extenders (like if you live in a small apartment) this is the same basic unit as above. It should cover about 1,500 square feet, although the coverage varies with the layout of the rooms and even the building materials of your home.
