Xiaomi Poco F4 release date, price and specifications

The Poco F4 series is here, and the regular F4 is finally here to join the game-focused F4 GT released a few months earlier.

These are two very different phones, so here’s what each has to offer – and even some F4 Pro rumors on the horizon.

When is the Xiaomi Poco F4 release date?

Poco first unveiled the F4 GT, which was unveiled globally on April 26 along with the first Poco Watch. The phone is already available for purchase worldwide, including the UK and Europe – you can buy it from the Mi Store – though it’s not launching in India.

Following this, the company released the regular Poco F4, which was presented at the global launch event on June 23 along with the Poco X4 and is already on sale worldwide. You can purchase it from Mi Store in Europe or Flipkart in India.

How much does Xiaomi Poco F4 cost?

So far there are two F4 phones. First, the regular F4 is available in four versions with slightly different specifications offered in India and Europe:

• 6GB + 128GB: £379 / €399 / £32,999
• 8GB + 128GB: £34,999
• 8GB + 256GB: £429 / €449
• 12GB + 256GB: £39,999

In typical Poco style, it gets even cheaper right after launch. From from June 27 to July 2 both phone models will get a £100/€50 discount, while Flipkart has plenty of launch deals that bring the starting price down to £27,999 and could go even lower with SBI trade-in and banking deals.

Then there’s the Poco F4 GT, which also comes in two flavors with slightly more RAM:

• 8 GB + 128 GB: €599
• 12GB + 256GB: £699 / €699

What are the characteristics of Xiaomi Poco F4?

Poco makes at least two phones in the Poco F4 line, so let’s break them down – starting with the new Poco F4 and then the slightly older F4 GT.

Poco F4

Poco waited until June to introduce the F4, also known as the F4 5G, which arrived a couple of months after the more powerful F4 GT.

The F4 has an understated design compared to the GT, none of that phone’s boxy design – and no sign of the magnetic shoulder triggers that mark this model as a gaming phone. On the contrary, it’s a fairly plain looking device, although at 7.7mm thin it’s reassuringly thin.

The phone is powered by the Snapdragon 870, one of Qualcomm’s older flagship chips. It’s actually the same chip as last year’s Poco F3, so there haven’t been any updates here. We spoke to Kevin Qiu, head of Poco Global, who essentially blamed the move for Qualcomm not releasing an equally affordable successor to the 870.

Either way, the 870 is joined here by either 6GB or 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM, as well as 128GB or 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The display is also similar to the F3, though not quite the same. It’s a 6.7-inch 120Hz AMOLED display again, but Qiu told us they’re running a brighter panel this year, which should improve HDR visibility and performance.

However, there are big changes elsewhere. Perhaps the main one is the use of a new 64MP rear camera with optical image stabilization – both an increase in resolution over the F3 and probably a bigger performance improvement thanks to the addition of OIS, which should greatly improve both night mode and video capture. . .

The rest of the camera settings are fairly similar, with an 8MP ultra-wide, a 2MP macro sensor, and a 20MP selfie camera on the front.

The 4,500mAh battery is basically the same as last year’s phone and is typical of the segment, but 67W fast wired charging is a significant step up.

Poco F4 GT

Poco F4 GT is the only official phone so far.

As expected before the launch, the phone is closely related to the Xiaomi Redmi K50 Gaming Edition, although since this phone is only released in China, this is not a problem.

This also applies to the design of the phone, which matches the gaming aesthetic of the original Redmi phone, albeit toned it down a bit. Well, aside from maybe the flashy bright yellow, the black and silver options are a bit more subtle.

The display and back of the phone are covered in Gorilla Glass Victus, although note that there is no official IP rating for dust and water resistance.

phone is equipped with the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 chipset, so you get top-notch performance and is cooled by LiquidCool 3.0 dual vapor chamber technology. That makes this a game-friendly phone thanks to the presence of magnetic retractable shoulder trigger buttons, though they can also be configured to act as shortcuts to the camera, flashlight, or other apps when they’re not gaming.

As mentioned above, it comes in two variants: 8GB RAM + 128GB storage or 12GB RAM + 256GB storage. It’s LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage respectively, which means you’re getting the highest standard in each.

The display is a 6.67-inch, FHD+, 120Hz AMOLED with 1920Hz PWM high-frequency dimming, HDR10+, and 800nits typical brightness. The only minor downside here is that while this is an AMOLED display, so it may support an under-display fingerprint scanner, Poco opted for a side scanner here instead.

The battery and charging are also impressive. The battery is 4700 mAh, which should provide decent durability. It is supported by 120W fast wired fast charging, which Poco says can deliver a full charge in just 17 minutes. However, there is no wireless charging option.

As for the cameras, there is a triple array on the back. The main camera uses a 64-megapixel Sony IMX686 sensor with an f/1.9 lens. This is joined by an 8MP f/2.2 ultra wide-angle lens and a 2MP f/2.4 macro lens. On the front, there is a single 20MP selfie camera with an f/2.4 aperture in the center hole.

The F4 GT comes with Android 12 running Xiaomi’s MIUI 13 skin on top. While Poco has been cautious about promising a certain number of Android updates for now, the company’s Angus Ng told us that the company is “trying to aim for three plus four,” meaning three years. Android version updates and four years of security patches. If nothing else, an update to Android 13 is almost guaranteed.

Poco F4 Pro

This is a little preliminary. The FCC listings after the launch of the F4 GT seem to have revealed model numbers – 22021211RG and 22021211G – of two more Poco phones. One of them was the regular F4, but some believe that the second model number may refer to the Poco F4 Pro. There’s nothing else to do, though, so don’t hold your breath.
