The Xiaomi 12 series was launched in China last December. The flagship line consists of three smartphones – Xiaomi 12, Xiaomi 12 Pro and Xiaomi 12X. However, Xiaomi 12 Ultra was absent from this series. Reports have suggested that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra is close to a global rollout after some of its key specs were allegedly leaked. Details of its rear panel have recently surfaced on Weibo, indicating that this flagship smartphone may have a particularly large rear camera module. Tipster compared its design to Vivo’s upcoming flagship offering.
Alleged details come from a known informant Digital chat station through Weibo. The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is said to feature a large rear camera module that spans nearly the entire width of the phone. It is expected that its outer part will be rectangular in shape, while the centrally located round inner part is tilted to accommodate all the camera sensors. Tipster mentions that this design mockup could be very similar to Vivo’s upcoming flagship smartphone, which could have a circular camera island left-aligned.
Previous reports have hinted that the Xiaomi 12 Ultra will come with quad rear cameras with a 5x periscope telephoto lens. This lens may be the highest optical zoom lens available on a smartphone at launch. In addition, it is assumed that the smartphone is equipped with Leica cameras. The smartphone is expected to feature a curved display with a punch-hole selfie camera located in the center. In addition, it is expected to be equipped with Xiaomi’s own Surge chips, like all other Xiaomi 12 series smartphones. These chips are designed to improve the overall image quality of the smartphone.
The Xiaomi 12 Ultra is said to feature a 6.6-inch AMOLED 2K display. It is speculated to be powered by the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 SoC. The smartphone is rumored to launch in February to replace the Xiaomi 11 Ultra.
