In early 2022, Xiaomi launched two new smartphones: Xiaomi 11i 5G and Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G. The two smartphones are almost identical, but have slightly different battery capacities and charging speeds. The latest model made all the headlines for its ability to charge incredibly fast. The Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G comes with a 120W charger and Xiaomi claims it can charge up to 100 percent in just 15 minutes. I got my hands on a new phone, and here are my first impressions.
Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G price in India and availability
Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G price in India starts at Rs. 26,999 for the base variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. The second variant with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage costs Rs. 28,999. Xiaomi is also offering a limited New Year’s Eve discount of Rs. 1,500 and SBI Bank cardholders can get additional rupees. 2500 cashback. The Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G is available in four color options: Pacific Pearl, Purple Mist, Camo Green and Stealth Black. It goes on sale in India on January 12th at noon.
Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G design and features
The Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G has a new design with smoothed sides and rounded corners and is quite comfortable to hold in the hand. At 8.34mm, the phone still feels thin, although the 204g weight is noticeable. The frame is made of polycarbonate and the back is glass.
In keeping with the current trend of side-mounted fingerprint scanners, the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G has a scanner located on the right, along with volume buttons. The phone also has stereo speakers, a 3.5mm headphone jack and an IR emitter, which is common on Xiaomi smartphones.
The Camo Green rear panel of the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G variant has a matte finish. This creates a two-tone effect, and green is only really noticeable when light hits it at an angle. Only with the “Xiaomi 5G” logo on the back, I really liked the minimalistic design of this smartphone. The camera module is larger than that of the Mi 10i (review) and protrudes slightly. It has three cameras: a 108 megapixel main camera, an 8 megapixel ultra wide-angle camera and a 5 megapixel macro camera. For selfies, this phone has a 16MP front-facing camera.
The Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 920 SoC, just like the recently launched Vivo V23. Both variants only have 128GB of storage, which can be expanded with a microSD card in the hybrid dual SIM tray.
The phone is running MIUI 12.5 based on Android 11 and the September Android security patch was installed on my device. It comes with several MIUI features and several pre-installed apps that can be uninstalled.
On the front, there is a large 6.67-inch AMOLED display with a small hole-punch notch and thin bezels on the sides. It has Full-HD + resolution and 120Hz refresh rate and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5.
The highlight of the Xiaomi 11i HyperCharge 5G is support for 120W fast charging. Xiaomi comes with a 120W charger and this is one of the largest devices I’ve seen bundled with a smartphone. It has a full-size USB Type-A port, and you also get a Type-A to Type-C cable with this phone. The Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge 5G is equipped with a 4500mAh battery, which Xiaomi claims can be fully charged in just 15 minutes. I look forward to checking out these charging claims in a full review.
With prices from Rs. 26,999 for Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge 5G, Xiaomi is trying to capitalize on the phone’s hypercharge ability to make it stand out in the crowded segment. The Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge 5G competes with models like the Realme GT Master Edition (review), Poco F3 GT (review), and Motorola Edge 20 (review). Can the Xiaomi 11i Hypercharge 5G lead in performance, battery life, display quality and ease of use? Or is it a one-trick pony? Stay tuned for a full review soon.
