Pixel 6 Pro is the next flagship phone on the market, how does it compare to the OnePlus 9 Pro?

Most recently, Google announced the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, the two latest smartphones to join the Pixel family.

In this article, we’ll focus specifically on the Pixel 6 Pro and evaluate its advantages over the other flagship smartphone, the OnePlus 9 Pro. Keep scrolling to see which phone comes first.

Camera

The camera was a very important aspect of the Pixel 6 Pro. This is the first Pixel to feature a triple camera, with a 50MP Octa PD Quad wide-angle camera, a 12MP ultra-wide camera with a 114-degree field of view and a 48MP telephoto lens.

The Pixel 6 Pro also includes a laser-detect AF sensor and a host of features. Highlights include Real Tone, which better displays all skin tones on the camera, Magic Eraser, which lets you erase unwanted objects or people from photos, and Face Unblur, which keeps your face in focus even in high-motion shots.

The OnePlus 9 Pro also supports triple camera setup with a 48MP main camera, 50MP ultra wide-angle camera and an 8MP telephoto lens, with the ability to shoot in 12-bit RAW as well. The OnePlus camera is definitely impressive, but it falls short when compared to the Pixel, especially when comparing features.

There are the usual modes here, including Nightscape, Portrait Mode, and UltraShot HDR, but the Pixel 6 Pro has fewer innovative features.

Going back to the Pixel for video, it can record in 1080p / 4K at 30 / 60fps, with support for slow motion up to 240fps and 4K time-lapse with stabilization. OnePlus can record at 1080p at 30fps, so you get more impressive videos if you google it.

Display

Google’s latest flagship packages feature a 6.7-inch OLED LTPO display with a 19.5: 9 aspect ratio. LTPO hardware also pairs well with a 120Hz refresh rate as it will change the refresh rate depending on how you use the phone …

For example, if you’ve watched a video clip or switched between apps, the refresh rate rises to provide a smoother experience, but if you’re reading a block of text rather than scrolling through it, the refresh rate may drop to 10 Hz. to save battery power.

It also has HDR support and 24-bit depth, which allows the phone to display over 16 million colors. In addition, the screen is made of Corning Gorilla Glass, which will help limit noticeable wear and tear.

The OnePlus 9 Pro features a 6.7-inch LTPO AMOLED display with a 20.1: 9 aspect ratio and 120Hz refresh rate, so it should be as smooth as a Google phone when using this phone.

The glass is also made from Corning Gorilla Glass with sRGB support and 10-bit color depth, which means it won’t have the same color range and depth as the Pixel 6 Pro.

Specifications

A big overhaul for Google this year was the introduction of a custom-built Tensor chipset that was designed to make the most of the latest phone’s software and hardware. According to Google, using it should result in a smoother, more accurate experience with the Pixel than other phones.

OnePlus uses the Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset, which is fast and flexible, but not the same as Tensor for the phone. Both phones use Android as their OS, but Google is using the latest Android 12 OS and the OnePlus 9 Pro is using Android 11.

The Pixel 6 Pro also comes with 12GB of RAM with 128GB and 256GB storage options, while the OnePlus 9 Pro has 8GB of RAM and the same storage options as the Pixel.

Price

In terms of price, the Pixel phone is only slightly more expensive than what OnePlus offers; The Pixel 6 Pro starts at £ 849 and the OnePlus 9 Pro starts at £ 829.

So, depending on which option you choose, you’ll probably spend roughly the same amount of money on both phones, as the most expensive options are capped at £ 949 for the Pixel 6 Pro and £ 929 for the OnePlus 9 Pro.

Early verdict

While we can’t say exactly how the two phones compare until we get the Pixel 6 Pro for a full review, it looks like Google has beaten the OnePlus here. Considering the prices are so similar, the Pixel 6 Pro packs a lot more features than the OnePlus model, including a very impressive camera and the fact that it runs on the groundbreaking new Android 12 OS.
