What are the key differences?

OnePlus just released another mid-range phone with 5G connectivity, but what sets it apart from its predecessor? Read on to find out all the key differences between the two phones.
OnePlus is a group that boasts a lot of dedicated following and there is a good reason for that; it offers a range of great Android phones that offer something impressive at every price point.
At the bottom of the mid-range, you’ll find the OnePlus Nord CE 5G and OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G; but what separates one from the other, and which should you choose? Read this guide to find out.
Design and screen
Externally, the design differences between the two devices are visible at a glance; The Nord CE’s camera module is a thin black vertical bar, while the 2nd generation phone has a smooth, slightly raised bump, a bit like the Oppo Find X3 Pro.

The color options are also different; the old phone is available in Charcoal Ink, Blue Void and Silver Ray, while the new one is available in two shades: Bahama Blue and Gray Mirror.
However, on the screens you will see a lot in common. These are 6.43-inch AMOLED panels with a refresh rate of 90Hz and a resolution of 1080x2400p (Full HD+). However, the key difference is that the OnePlus Nord CE 2 5G has HDR10+ support, which its predecessor didn’t have, so images and supported videos should be a bit more vibrant.
There are very good fields here, but it seems that the Nord CE 2 just puts its predecessor on a pole.
Camera
Although the camera modules look significantly different, as discussed above, the actual specifications are strikingly similar.
Both feature a 64MP main camera, an 8MP ultra wide-angle lens, and a 2MP macro sensor. the only significant differences can be found in the holes; The Nord CE’s main and ultra-wide sensors have apertures of f/1.7 and f/2.2, respectively, while its successor’s sensors measure f/1.8 and f/2.3.

There is very little choice between the two in this respect and you would be hard-pressed to choose one based on this specification alone.
Representation
The chipsets of both devices are different, with the latest model powered by a MediaTek Dimensity 900 5G while the older version is powered by a Snapdragon 750G 5G processor.
After testing both devices, here are the test results:
Geekbench 5 Single Core | Geekbench 5 multi-core | 3D Mark Sling Shot | 3D stamp “Wild Life” | |
OnePlus NordCE 5G | 632 | 1807 | 2715 | 1124 |
OnePlus NordCE 2 5G | 727 | 2148 | 3725 | 2015 |
As you can see, the new model has improved all the scores of the previous version, especially in the last two tests, which are especially relevant to gaming performance.
Battery life
Once again, the two devices are broadly similar in another measure; they both have a 4500 mAh battery. However, there is one spec here that puts the Nord CE 2 head and shoulders above the original, and that’s with regards to fast charging, where its 67W charger easily beats the Nord CE’s (yet impressive) 30W output.
Early verdict
OnePlus has made very few changes to the Nord CE 2 as it strongly resembles the previous device in the series. The new one will likely have a very slight edge in a few areas, especially fast charging and performance, but if you can find a discounted price offer on the Nord CE 5G, then it could be better value for money. .
