When is the third season of The Mandalorian coming out?
The Mandalorian’s third season has wrapped filming, and Disney has confirmed that the series will air on March 1, 2022and episodes will likely be released weekly.
This gives you plenty of time to catch up on the first two seasons. as well as check out The Book of Boba Fett – if you haven’t seen it yet, this spin-off series has a few pretty big moments that make it a must-see for Mandalorian fans.
Is there a trailer yet?
Yes, the first trailer was unveiled at the Disney D23 event. In it, we see Din Djarin seeking to redeem himself for violating the customs of the Mandalorian people. We also see the return of Bo-Katan and fan favorite Babu Frik:
Who will play in the third season of The Mandalorian?
Pedro Pascal will reprise his role as Dean Djarin (aka Mando).
We know he’ll be joined by Carl Weathers’ Grif Karga and Katie Sackhoff’s Mandalorian warrior Bo-Katan Kryze.
The big question in the returning cast is whether or not we’ll get an appearance from the show’s big villain, Breaking Bad’s Giancarlo Esposito, although that seems very likely.
In addition, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Back to the Future star Christopher Lloyd will appear in the third season. His role has not been revealed, but it will most likely be a guest role rather than a recurring role.
One actor who won’t be returning is Gina Carano as Cara Dune. io9 reports that Lucasfilm has released the following statement:
“Gina Carano is not currently with Lucasfilm and has no plans to work in the future. However, her social media posts slandering people based on their cultural and religious affiliations are disgusting and unacceptable.”
This comes as Carano shared an anti-Semitic story on her Instagram, as well as months of other posts supporting anti-mask behavior, spreading US election plots, denouncing the use of pronouns, and supporting posts that make fun of Black Lives. The movement of matter.
Cara Dune was a major character in The Mandalorian and could have had a bigger role in New Republic Rangers. According to The Hollywood Reporter, a Lucasfilm spokesperson has confirmed that the character will not be recast.
Rosario Dawson will star in her own spin-off as Ahsoka Tano, but we may see her make another cameo appearance since her show takes place in the same timeline as The Mandalorian. We also believe that Ahsoka will air after the third season, so it would make sense for her to show up to host her spin-off show.
Temuera Morrison played a pivotal role as Boba Fett in the second season and Mando also played a big role in his own series. We wouldn’t be surprised to see crossovers with both characters again, and perhaps the appearance of Ming-Na Wen as sniper Fennec Shand.
Who will write the script and direct the third season?
Behind the cameras, Jon Favreau, who has experience both producing and directing and brought us Iron Man and The Jungle Book, is the series’ showrunner and lead writer, though he is expertly assisted by Star Wars: The Clone Wars veteran Dave Filoni. . .
What to expect from the third season
Spoilers for The Mandalorian season 2 and The Book of Boba Fett below
Season 2 of The Mandalorian had probably the most shocking guest appearance we’ve ever seen on the show. The Jedi Master himself – young Luke Skywalker – boarded Moff Gideon’s light cruiser and single-handedly destroyed all the Dark Troopers with ease.
After he cleared out the debris, he revealed that he had arrived answering a call from Grog (also known as the Child and/or Baby Yoda) and was there to train him in the ways of the Jedi. After a heartbreaking goodbye between Din Djarin and Baby Yoda, Luke left with Grog in tow.

The rest of the story continues in the fifth, sixth, and seventh episodes of The Book of Boba Fett, which essentially acts like the Mandalorian season 2.5.
Grogu trained as a Jedi alongside Luke Skywalker on a mysterious forest planet where a Jedi temple is being built – the place where many young Padawans, including Ben Solo/Kylo Ren, will eventually be trained.
Din Djarin traveled to the planet to reunite with Grogu, but was stopped by Ahsoka, who believed it would put the young apprentice back on his path to becoming a Jedi. He left a piece of armor in her care for her to die.
She then left it to Luke, who gave Grog the choice of taking the armor and returning to the care of a Mandalorian, or taking Yoda’s old lightsaber and continuing to train as a Jedi, but never seeing a Mandalorian again.
Luckily, Grogu chose the latter, and R2-D2 delivered him to Peli Motto’s workshop. The Child and Din Djarin were reunited during the Battle of Mos Espa on Tatooine with Boba Fett, where Baby Yoda helped defeat a droid and tame a feral rancor that destroyed the city with a Jedi mind trick.

The episode ends with Baby Yoda demanding that Mando push his Naboo starfighter to top speed from his small seat. So, this means that the third season of The Mandalorian will start with the reunion of Mando and Baby Yoda, as we wanted from the very beginning.
There are still some unresolved issues – Luke gave us insight into when Grog was originally taken from his home during the Great Jedi Purge. Season 3 of The Mandalorian could delve into these past events.
Giancarlo Esposito revealed at GalaxyCon that Moff Gideon is after Grog for reasons fans don’t yet know. He told a young fan, “This child has magical powers, [is] 50 years and we can see the future and we want everyone to know, after all, in this show that [Grogu] can save our universe.”
Then there is also the Darksaber issue. Moff Gideon revealed that Mando was the rightful owner of the weapon after defeating him in combat. This came as a blow to Bo-Katan, as she needed the blade to reclaim the throne of Mandalore. In order for her to win the Darksaber, she needs to defeat Mando in combat.
After watching the trailer, there was speculation that Bo-Katan sits on a throne on the planet Concord Dawn, adjacent to the Mandalorians.

Episode 5 of The Boba Fett Book confirmed that Mando had no intention of giving up the Darksaber, especially after Paz Vizsla challenged him.
It was also revealed in the same episode that Din Djarin is no longer a Mandalorian – at least according to the code of the cult group he previously belonged to. The armorer asked if he had taken off his helmet, and when he confessed to doing so, she stated that he had violated the creed of the religion.
The Mandalorians can redeem themselves, but they can only do so by going to the waters beneath the mines of Mandalore itself. However, they are destroyed. The trailer seems to show that Mando is visiting the place – and he has a big quest ahead of him.
Mando has a brand new ship courtesy of Peli Moto. While it’s not a direct replacement for the now-destroyed Razer Crest, it’s arguably better – the old N-1 fighter. During a test flight, Mando caught the attention of Captain Carson Thewa and Lieutenant Reid and had to flee to avoid questions. We can probably expect to see this duo again.
The post-credits scene of The Book of Boba Fett revealed that Cobb Vant was not killed by Cad Bane – he is being treated in a bacta tank. So, we may see old friend Mando resurface next season.
Finally, we still need to deal with the Imperial forces. Gideon might be captured for now, but he’s not dead yet. The stragglers of the Empire are still alive in the galaxy, and this show seems to be about how the First Order came into being. Cloning and experimenting with Grog’s blood seem to hint at how Snoke was created, but it could be something entirely different.
Thanks to Ahsoka, we also know that Grand Admiral Thrawn is loitering somewhere in the galaxy, so he could be the next big villain on the list.
