The iQoo 9 smartphone announcement shows what to look out for in 2022

IQoo, a subsidiary of Vivo, has announced its latest series of flagship smartphones, the iQoo 9, and we think it’s worth seeing in 2022.

As seen from the images (through GSMArena), the iQoo 9 and iQoo 9 Pro certainly look the part, with a choice of several attractive finishes. The BMW M variants with stripes stand out.

Both phones have a 6.78-inch AMOLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate, but the Pro has curved edges, QHD resolution and variable refresh rate thanks to LTPO 2.0 technology. The regular model has a flat screen and FHD + resolution.

The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 processor powers both phones, so we’re looking at flagship performance.

They also provide you with the same 50MP main camera sensor Samsung ISOCELL GN5, which is one of Samsung’s latest and greatest components. When it comes to backup cameras, things are different: the iQoo 9 has an ultra wide-angle 13MP camera and a 12MP telephoto lens with 2x zoom. The IQoo 9 Pro gives you an excellent 50MP 150-degree ultra wide-angle camera and a 16MP telephoto lens with 2.5x magnification.

You get 4700mAh batteries and 120W fast charging. The Pro model also provides 50W wireless charging and 10W reverse wireless charging.

Another common standout spec is the entry-level model with 256GB of internal storage, with an additional 512GB option if you’re looking to spend a little extra cash.

Speaking of money, these phones aren’t really that expensive compared to what they offer. The iQoo 9 starts at RMB 3999 (about £ 465) and the iQoo 9 Pro starts at (about £ 580). Both will go on sale in China later this month.

While the new series of phones are for China only at the moment, chances are very good that they will enter the more global market at some point this year. The brand has announced its intention to test water in new markets and last year it provided us with its iQoo 7 and iQoo 7 Legend for review. We were impressed.

If and when iQoo unveils its latest flagship phones in the west, they could well be a great option for those looking for top performance and sleek designs at a surprisingly reasonable price.
