Surfshark launches new Dynamic MultiHop feature for its VPN

Nearly a year ago, Surfshark announced a major new feature: Nexus. It was a radical departure from how most VPNs work: instead of just having your internet connection go through one server (or maybe two), Nexus meant “your traffic is routed through a whole network of servers, not just one.” VPN tunnel.
Surfshark says this approach shadows and hides your traffic, stabilizes performance, and speeds up your VPN connection.
One of the advantages of Nexus was the ability to choose “input” and “output” servers on the network, and finally this is being rolled out.
Surfshark calls it Dynamic MultiHop, and it’s available right now on the iOS app. It should arrive on Android, Windows, and macOS within the next few weeks. Currently, the popup says “This is a new feature we’re testing”, suggesting it’s not fully complete.
“To put it simply, MultiHop is a dual VPN service that allows users to connect through two different VPN servers at the same time. This feature makes it twice as difficult to track or hack user connections as their information is routed across multiple countries. Previously, users could only use pre-selected server pairs, but after the upgrade, they can select both locations manually. Not only does this help provide additional security, privacy, and customization, but it can also improve speed in some cases,” says Eustas Pukis, VPN Product Owner at Surfshark.

The real benefit here is the extra layer of privacy you get when using two servers, and you shouldn’t expect this to speed up your connection: it only happens in very rare cases. In fact, you will most likely see a drop in connection speed as the connection has to travel between two different servers in different locations.
It is worth noting that they do not have to be in different countries. If Surfshark has servers in multiple locations in the same country, such as London and Glasgow in the UK, you can select those for your custom connection, and as long as you’re actually in or around that country, you shouldn’t see too much of a drop. although we haven’t had time to test this theory yet.
Once you have the updated version of the Surfshark app, tap Locations and then Multihop. Along with options to select the fastest, closest, or preset list of country combinations, you’ll also see a “Create Connection” button.
Click on it and you will be able to select your login and logout servers in over 100 countries. And you’ll see the previous pairs of servers you’ve used in the MultiHop list, and you’ll be able to mark your favorites, as well as remove the ones you don’t use or won’t use.
Surfshark is not the first VPN to offer its users a customizable dual VPN. Hide.me added the same feature to their apps back in March 2021.
However, Dynamic MultiHop is not the first feature to use the Surfshark Nexus software-defined network. It was an IP Rotator that changes your IP address every 10-15 minutes.
