Song Xperia 1 IV release date, price and spec rumors

When we reviewed the Sony Xperia 1 III back in 2021, we were impressed with the innovative camera system, powerful performance and best-in-class sound. Now rumors about his successor are starting to pick up steam.

So what improvements will the company make when it introduces the Sony Xperia 1 IV? Here are the latest news and leaks about the new model.

When will the Sony Xperia 1 IV be released?

Sony hasn’t officially announced the Xperia 1 IV yet, so we don’t have a release date, but we’ve seen a few rumors that the company intends to introduce the device around April or May 2022. In the past, Sony has had a habit of announcing new phones but not releasing them worldwide for several months. With the Xperia 1 line this has been the case, as you can see from the following:

Thus, it is possible that the rumors that April/May could be an official announcement, while the launch could take place in the summer, as was the case with previous models.

Whenever it arrives, expect the phone to be announced alongside the compact Xperia 5 IV and the cheaper Xperia 10 IV.

How much will the Sony Xperia 1 IV cost?

Since these are flagship devices, they also come with flagship prices. We don’t yet know how much the Xperia 1 IV will cost, but previous models can serve as a guide. Here’s how they lined up:

  • Sony Xperia 1 II – £1,099/$1,199
  • Sony Xperia 1 III – £1,199 / $1,299

So, if you want the Sony Xperia IV, there’s a good chance the price tag will be four numbers.

What are the specifications of the Sony Xperia 1 IV?

Although no official details have been made public, very reliable OnLeaks posted design renders based on leaks he received. The images are posted on Indian tech site Giznext and show that Sony seems to be sticking with the beautiful aesthetics of the previous two models.

This means the Xperia 1 IV should keep the 6.5-inch display, presumably the same as the Xperia 1 III’s panel, which was OLED, 21:9 CinemaWide, 4K HDR with a 120Hz refresh rate. It also looks like Sony has once again opted for a thin bezel along the top of the bezel that allows for the front camera to be placed without the need for a punch hole or notch.

There’s also no built-in under-display fingerprint sensor, as the power button on the right side turns on the fingerprint sensor. There’s a volume rocker, and the report also says that the 3.5mm headphone jack will reappear on the top edge of the Xperia 1 IV. The bottom of the case has a SIM tray (which should also support microSD cards) and a USB-C charging port.

We also recently saw another render of the new device from graphic designer Technizo Concept animating the Xperia 1 IV so you can see it in all its potential glory.

Another leak from a Chinese whistleblower, Zackbucks, was posted on Weibo, outlining the following specifications of internal components:

  • 1st Generation Snapdragon 8 Processor
  • 12/16 GB RAM
  • 256/512 GB storage
  • Xperia 1 III Camera Array Updates
  • battery 5000 mAh
  • 45W wired charging + wireless charging

We haven’t seen any details about the camera system yet, but because the photo and video experience on the Xperia 1 III was so good, with the revolutionary variable telephoto lens and dual PD sensor, that Sony doesn’t have to do much at all to deliver top-notch images on the Xperia 1 IV. .

Tech reporter @TheGalox_ posted this tweet talking about the camera improvements and that the Xperia 1 IV will be “a big upgrade from the III”.
