Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC configuration for Samsung Galaxy S23 unveiled, new telephoto camera may arrive

Samsung is believed to be mulling over a decision on whether to use the Exynos 2300 SoC or the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset for the Galaxy S23 series. The details of these chipsets are still up in the air. There have been rumors in the past that the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC could have a combination of Cortex-X3, Cortex-A720, Cortex-A710, and Cortex-A510 cores. However, a well-known tipster recently shared a different configuration of this chipset as well as more details.

According to tweet from tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC could have a pair of 2GHz Cortex-A715 cores instead of Cortex-A720 cores. The rest of the configuration is expected to be the same: a 3.2GHz Cortex-X3 core, two 2GHz Cortex-A710 cores, and three 3GHz Cortex-A710 cores.

The leaker also mentioned that the chipset with model number SM8550 is being developed using TSMC’s 4nm process. In addition, the Neural Processing Unit (NPU), Image Signal Processor (ISP), and GPU have been significantly improved in the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 chipset.

A recent report said that Samsung Electronics wants to use the Exynos 2300 SoC in the Galaxy S23 series. However, the Samsung MX department is looking to use the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC due to its superior performance.

There have been more leaks and rumors about the Galaxy S23 series lately. According to report from GalaxyClub, this line could be the first from Samsung to feature a telephoto lens with sensor-shift stabilization technology. The publication allegedly noticed Samsung’s WIPO (World Intellectual Property Organization) patent for this camera technology.

Notably, the Galaxy S23 series is expected to have the same rear camera module as the Galaxy S22 series. It is believed that only the Ultra model will receive a 200-megapixel ISOCELL HP2 camera sensor.
