The Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 3 (unofficial names) have received IPX8 water resistance. The South Korean tech giant is expected to unveil its two new foldable smartphones on August 11 at the Galaxy Unpacked event, and it looks like water resistance will be one of the improvements over the previous generation. As impressive as the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 2 and Galaxy Z Flip were, they didn’t have an official IP rating.

The upcoming foldable flagships from Samsung, the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3, are expected to have official IPX8 water resistance. tweet renowned machinist Max Weinbach (@MaxWeinbach). This means that despite the design of the Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip series, Samsung has managed to largely protect the internal components from water damage. The IPX8 rating means that the device has not been tested for dust resistance (indicated by the letter “X”), but the number “8” means that it can withstand continuous immersion in water, typically up to three meters.

This isn’t the first time the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3 have received some kind of water resistance rating. Back in April, the two phones received an official IP rating, but at the time it was unclear what the rating would be.
