Rumors about the Samsung Galaxy S23 series have been circulating for weeks now. It is expected that the line will include three models – Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 + and Galaxy S23 Ultra. Samsung has not yet confirmed the development of a new series, but before that, information about the Galaxy S23 Ultra camera was leaked to the network. The flagship smartphone is rumored to feature a quad rear camera setup led by a 200MP Samsung ISOCELL sensor. The main rear camera sensor can have a 0.6µm pixel size and f/1.7 aperture. Samsung has reportedly expanded its supply chain for the Galaxy S23 Ultra, and Sunny Optical could provide 12MP and 10MP sensors for the upcoming flagship.
Over the past two years, Samsung has introduced a 200MP ISOCELL HP1 sensor and a 200MP ISOCELL HP3 sensor based on pixel binning technology to achieve a maximum image resolution of 200MP. ISOCELL HP1 has a pixel size of 0.64 microns and ISOCELL HP3 has a smaller pixel size of 0.56 microns. According to report According to Phonearena, Samsung will fit a dedicated 200-megapixel ISOCELL sensor in the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra that sits between the two sensors, with a 0.64 micron pixel size, 1/1.3 sensor size, and f/1.7 aperture. It is also said to have a resolution of 50 megapixels.
According to the report, a 50-megapixel pixel-binned sensor mode will return 1.12-micron pixels. In low light conditions, the resolution can be reduced to 12.5 megapixels, but with a pixel size of 2.4 microns and Samsung imaging technologies, it can offer a unique night mode. The default 50MP mode can allow users to record 8K videos in full size.
The upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra is said to feature four cameras on the back with the same camera configuration as this year’s Galaxy S22 Ultra. In addition to the 200-megapixel main sensor, there may be a 12-megapixel ultra-wide-angle module, a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with support for 10x optical zoom, and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom. The Galaxy S23 Ultra is also reported to feature a new 12-megapixel selfie sensor.
As reported The Elec (Korean), Samsung will have new camera suppliers for the 10MP folded zoom sensor. Sunny Optical has reportedly joined Samsung’s supply chain to provide 12MP ultra wide-angle cameras and 10MP 10x zoom cameras for the upcoming Galaxy S23 Ultra.
