Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, Galaxy S22 Ultra Launched with 120Hz AMOLED Displays: Price, Specs

The Samsung Galaxy S22 series, which features the South Korean company’s latest flagship smartphones, was unveiled on Tuesday (February 9) at the Galaxy Unpacked 2022 event. Just like last year, Samsung launched three new S series smartphones, and this year the lineup includes Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra. The smartphones are powered by the latest high-end smartphone chipsets and feature AMOLED displays with a 120Hz refresh rate. This year, Samsung increased the charging speed for its Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra models by offering 45W wired charging. The company also boasts cutting-edge “Night Scene” low-light enhancements on the Galaxy S22 series. The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ share the same camera setup, while the Galaxy S22 Ultra is the first S-series smartphone to ship with an in-body S Pen and the first smartphone from Samsung since the Galaxy Note 20.

Samsung Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra price, availability

The Samsung Galaxy S22 and Samsung Galaxy S22+ will be available with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage and 8GB + 256GB storage. Meanwhile, the high-end Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will be available in 8GB RAM + 128GB, 12GB RAM + 256GB, 12GB RAM + 512GB, and 12GB RAM + 1TB storage options.

The Galaxy S22 starts at $799 (roughly Rs. 59,900) and the Galaxy S22 Plus starts at $999 (roughly Rs. 74,800). The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra starts at $1,199 (roughly Rs. 89,700). Pricing details for the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+ and Galaxy S22 Ultra in India are yet to be revealed by the company. According to Samsung, the Galaxy S22 series smartphones will go on sale from February 25th.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 runs Android 12 with One UI 4.1 on top. The smartphone is equipped with a 6.1-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with Full HD+ resolution and Gorilla Glass Victus + protection, and the case is protected by aluminum armor. The display also comes with a Samsung Eye Comfort Shield for blue light control and a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate that can go down to 10Hz. Under the hood of the Samsung Galaxy S22 is an octa-core 4nm SoC paired with 8GB of RAM.

As for the front camera, the Samsung Galaxy S22 features a triple rear camera setup that includes a 50-megapixel Dual Pixel main wide-angle sensor with an f/1.8 aperture lens and autofocus; 12-megapixel ultra-wide camera with f/2.2 lens and 120-degree field of view; and a 10-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom and optical image stabilization (OIS). The Samsung Galaxy S22 also features a 10-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.2 lens and an 80-degree field of view.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 offers up to 256GB of internal storage, and connectivity options on the phone include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, a barometer, a geomagnetic sensor, a gyroscope, a Hall sensor, and a proximity sensor. The smartphone also features an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor built into the display. The Samsung Galaxy S22 is equipped with a 3700mAh battery that supports 25W fast charging, and the smartphone also supports 15W wireless charging as well as Wireless PowerShare for reverse wireless charging. The phone measures 146×70.6×7.6mm and weighs 168 grams.

The Samsung Galaxy S22+ runs Android 12 with One UI 4.1 on top. The smartphone features a 6.6-inch Full HD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with Samsung Eye Comfort Shield support for blue light management, a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate that can drop to 10Hz, and a maximum brightness of 1750 nits. Under the hood of the Galaxy S22+ is an octa-core 4nm SoC paired with 12GB of RAM.

In terms of optics, the Samsung Galaxy S22+ features a triple rear camera setup that includes a 12MP ultra-wide camera with an f/2.2 lens and a 120-degree field of view. The phone also features a 50-megapixel Dual Pixel primary wide-angle sensor with autofocus and an f/1.8 aperture lens; and a 10-megapixel telephoto lens with 3x optical zoom, optical image stabilization (OIS) and f/2.4 lens. The Samsung Galaxy S22 features a 10-megapixel selfie camera with f/2.2 aperture and 80-degree field of view.

The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra is the first S-series smartphone to feature an integrated S Pen with 70% less latency than its predecessor, the Galaxy S22 Ultra. The smartphone runs Android 12 with One UI 4.1 on top. Unlike the Galaxy S22 and Galaxy S22+ with Full HD+ displays, the Galaxy S22 Ultra features a large 6.8-inch Edge QHD+ Dynamic AMOLED 2X display with a 120Hz adaptive refresh rate that can drop down to 1Hz. The display is protected by Gorilla Glass Victus + and supports a peak brightness level of 1750 nits. The Galaxy S22 Ultra display also features updated Wacom technology to support improved S Pen functionality, including latency reduction. The phone is powered by an octa-core 4nm SoC coupled with up to 12GB of RAM.

As for the front camera, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra boasts four rear cameras, including a 108-megapixel wide-angle camera with an f/1.8 lens. The smartphone also features a 12-megapixel f/2.2 ultra wide-angle camera and a 10-megapixel f/2.4 telephoto camera with 3x optical zoom. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra also features a fourth 10MP telephoto lens with f/4.9 aperture and 10x optical zoom. The camera supports Space Zoom, like its predecessor, with 10x optical zoom and 10x digital zoom with AI Super Resolution technology. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra features a 40-megapixel front-facing camera sensor with an f/2.2 aperture lens.

According to the company, the Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra will be sold with 128GB, 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options. Connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, UWB, Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth v5.2, GPS/A-GPS, NFC, and a USB Type-C port. Sensors on board include an accelerometer, an ambient light sensor, a barometer, a geomagnetic sensor, a gyroscope, a Hall sensor, and a proximity sensor. The smartphone is equipped with an ultrasonic fingerprint sensor built into the display. The Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra packs a 5000mAh battery with 45W fast charging support and supports 15W wireless charging as well as Wireless PowerShare for reverse wireless charging. The phone measures 163.3×77.9×8.9mm and weighs 229 grams.
